Any chance we could talk Clay Bignell out being the DB coach at New Mexico and come back here as DB's / Co-Coordinator?

Bobby and his wife own a home in Bozeman.PapaG wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 4:52 pmWas Daly one of the coaches who were all living together because of Bozeman’s ridiculous housing costs? I imagine Vigen knew this was coming? Usually doesn't happen overnight and if he has the same transparency perspective with coaches as he seeks to have with players, chances are he's already reached out to someone from outside the program, or has had talks with in-house coaches about moving up...right?

Other thing to remember is Texas is a low personal property tax and athletes and coaches like to take jobs there because of tax breaks.Bobby will probably making pretty good coin.

Re: DC Daly reported to UTEP
I'd imagine it was somewhat of a surprise as UTEP's former DC left only a week ago to join the Dallas Cowboys staff. That said I think any competent coach always keeps a list of potential assistant hires should the need arise. No need to worry, Vigen has pretty consistently made high quality hires for his staff with one notable and high profile exception. And that's a mistake I highly doubt he'll make again.nanacat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 7:27 pmI imagine Vigen knew this was coming? And amazingly sometimes these coaches spouses actually have jobs. And can help with housing and living expenses.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 5:52 pmDaly is married and has a daughter, so I have my doubts he is living with a bunch of other coaches. I apologize, there was a lot of bitter sarcasm in my statement. We have a lot of good talent coming back, and we should perpetually be a top 4 team. Just some sour grapes.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 5:51 pmYou have an odd definition of "nearly all". Would you like the full list of major contributors to the 2024 team who will be back next year? Happy to type one out for you.JoeCatsJoe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 5:09 pmWell, at least there’s a huge, massive, game changing gift that’s definitely absolutely for sure coming that’ll offset the brutal wound that was losing the chipper, and the salt in that wound that was losing nearly all our proven talent and both our coordinators!!

Your other point about a game changing gift also cracks me up. So many people on here upset because someone mentioned it and expected an announcement immediately. There was never an indication it was NIL, facility, scholarships. Not sure why everyone is so pessimistic about it now. Why would the OP mention if there wasn't some chance of a gift coming.JoeCatsJoe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 8:13 pmI apologize, there was a lot of bitter sarcasm in my statement. I assume you are referring to personal income tax in Texas, for which there is none if you handle it correctly. Personal property tax in Texas is locally assessed and administered - typically taxable if assets are income producing but major loopholes exist. Real estate tax in Texas (have a home in Austin) is brutal and calculated by the U of M tackle statistician.superbobcat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 7:45 pmOther thing to remember is Texas is a low personal property tax and athletes and coaches like to take jobs there because of tax breaks.Bobby will probably making pretty good coin.
I always get curious about the cost of living index when I hear about coaching changes and opportunity. A brief search and analysis shows El Paso to be 34.6% cheaper on overall cost of living than Bozeman. The median home cost in El Paso is 69% cheaper than Bozeman. However, the average temp in El Paso during June - September is 159 degrees so it is highly suggested to build a pool, thus adding to the taxable value of the home.
Last 2 fun facts: (1) Austin living expenses are 3.2% higher than Bozeman, but that does not include eating brisket and drinking Jellyfish 4 times per week while listening to live music; and (2) Compared to Austin, Bozeman housing is 18% higher. That's f*****!

Perhaps I shouldn’t have used bitter sarcasm humor over text, where it doesn’t come across as good as in person. I have no insight whatsoever on that gift, it could be anything. However, it’s been rumored for long enough without anything concrete to make me nervous that it’s not what it’s been hyped up to be. However, I’d absolutely love for it to be a huge gift.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 8:18 pmYour other point about a game changing gift also cracks me up. I don’t know about 159 degrees but I can confirm it gets very hot there in the summer. The dust storms that roll through are also something to behold, better seal up any gaps in your doors and windows. I never had a car with air conditioning until I moved to El Paso and quickly figured out I needed to spend the cash to get it installed in my car. Cost of living in El Paso is definitely lower than Bozeman, even when I lived there.PortlandCat90 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 8:53 pmI assume you are referring to personal income tax in Texas, for which there is none if you handle it correctly. I’m not sure I’ve heard who the replacements are, but, it’s safe to say that IMO this is the single most detrimental thing that will affect our next 2 years. Getting this hire wrong will be a huge setback, beyond what it already is with Daly leaving.BobcatBuiltTexan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:50 pmHowe is the new dc........ownes goes the lbs...shep goes to safeties.... they are in the portal for a cb coach.... lots of turnover. Every portal period is going to be interesting from here on out! If Texan is right and Howe is the new DC I think the players will be very happy with that. He's extremely well liked from everything I've heard about him.nanacat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 9:57 pmQuestion of the day. Re: DC Daly reported to UTEP
Daly‘s name has been floated in a few different job possibilities starting last fall. I would think Coach would have a short list ready. I don’t think Howe is ready for that spot yet. Just my two centsMSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 7:47 pmI'd imagine it was somewhat of a surprise as UTEP's former DC left only a week ago to join the Dallas Cowboys staff. Re: DC Daly reported to UTEP
My biggest concern with Daly leaving was how much he was liked and respected by the players. I hope you are right on Howe’s relationship with the kids. It is critical with todays players.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 10:23 pmEvery portal period is going to be interesting from here on out!
