Hawkins says beware!

Hawk Love for Bobcats

Just because Montana State has a Division I-AA football team doesn't mean Hawkins is discounting the Bobcats' worth. In fact, he says he identifies with them.

"I went to a school that had about 130 kids in it, so I loved to go against those so-called bigger teams," Hawkins said. "With I-AA, you don't have as many scholarships, but you still have some great front-line players. Sometimes you don't have as much depth, but (Montana State has) several guys in the National Football

League.
"They are a very good team that's used to winning. They expect to win. They've been in the playoffs in their recent history. So those guys will come in with a monster-sized chip on their shoulder - as well they should."

Text mania

Quarterback James Cox never knew coaches had the knowledge to send text messages, much less send them at the rate Hawkins does. The CU coach sent players a message Tuesday imploring them to get excited for game week and to continue to work hard.

"I try to get inside their heads a little bit," Hawkins said.

Footnotes

CU has sold about 41,000 tickets for Saturday's game, leaving just over 12,000 available. For next week's Colorado State game, the Buffs have 3,200 remaining from their allotment. ... CU welcomed D.J. Dykes, a hard-hitting safety, to practice Tuesday. Dykes transferred from Idaho.

Anybody else a little bit worried about Hawkins' reputation for running up the score? I'm hoping his complicated offense hasn't taken root yet.

Our history in these games has been to compete admireably, make some plays, scare the opposition a bit, but...still lose.

He wasn't able to last year at BSU when he played against the Big Sky so hopefully the talent he has at UC has not caught up to his system yet.
