Betting Lines Week One

Post by catatac » Tue Aug 27, 2024 8:07 pm

Cats over Utah Tech by 22.5
Griz over Missouri State by 14.5

Most of the other Big Sky teams going against FBS look to be around 30 point spreads or slightly under. Didn't see a line on the EWU vs Monmouth game Thursday night so if anyone see it, please post it.

NDSU and SDSU are both 9.5 point dogs against CO and OK State respectively.

I'd take both the Cats and Gris over. NDSU under and OK State over.

Do you mean to say these teams will/will not cover the spread? Or are you talking O/U?

I'm guessing he's predicting the Cats and Griz both beat their opponents by more than those spreads, NDSU gets beat by more than 9.5 but SDSU does not get beat by more than 9?

I don't know how betting works. Cats and Gris winning by more than they are favored. NDSU losing by less than the 9.5 and OK State winning by more than 9.

Find your nearest kiosk and place those bets baby!!! I’ll take both MSU’s to cover spreads and The DSU’s to miss. I think the DSU’s are very good, but I think CU will be better than last year and OSU always seems to be fairly competitive. UM should win, but I think it could be close like last year’s season opener.

Ok State is getting a ton of pre-season hype. Many people think they will make the CFP.

Wow, Idaho vs Oregon line is 43.5. Seems high but maybe not.

That is a lot! I would throw $20 on Idaho getting 43 points.

Oregon beat Portland State 81-7 last year, so they likely aren't going to take their foot off the gas even if they get a big lead. Idaho is better than PSU but I think I'd still take Oregon even with that big of a spread.

I agree. 2022 MSU was better than 2024 Idaho (much better, I expect, with all the studs Idaho lost) and 2022 Oregon State was really good, but not 2024 Oregon good. And MSU got thumped by 40....

We'll see, always tough to tell what teams are going to look like, even just one year later (especially with all the craziness). Is Idaho a true contender, top FCS team? Would NDSU and SDSU get beat by Oregon by 43? Maybe. I'm guessing the point spread was around there a few years ago when the Griz went in and knocked off the Huskies. That was crazy.

Gris/Bears total is 52.5 I really like the under here.

Cat team total is 41.5 I like the Over (just put up 35 on a much better defense)

All of what you said is entirely valid and shows exactly why I don't bet on sports other than maybe a few small wagers for fun when I'm in Vegas! Individual game results are just too unpredictable and that's a lot of what makes sports so much fun to follow.

These are "spreads". You refer to these as "covering the spread". If MSU beats UTU by 23, they covered. If Utah Tech loses by 22 or less, they covered. This basically translates to MSU is 22.5 point favorites, and is expected to win by such.

"Over" and "under" are for total points between the two opponents. Over/under for our game seems to be 61.5, and you would either bet the over (both teams combined will score 62+) or the under (combined score of 61 or under)

Yeah but when you bet on sports, you can win 2000+% whereas you can only lose 100% it’s simple math. Let it ride.

I could see the Cats game finishing below the total. Cats defense only gave up two scores to UNM. The handicappers might not be predicting a low-scoring game, per se, but perhaps something like 38-3.

The total on the game is 62.5 and the team total for the trailblazers is 17.5 so they are predicting a 44-17 type of game.
