New rules for BSC football
RULES CHANGES
Per league supervisor of officials Doug Toole, changes in the rules for the 2006 season…
• Eye shields must be clear
• Kicking tees are reduced from two inches to one inch
• Halftime is 20 minutes throughout college football, but two minutes may be added to two home games per school in Big Sky games
• The game clock starts when the ball is kicked, rather than when it is received, on kickoffs
• MSU and other I-AA schools will be involved in replay games when battling I-A opponents, as that process is now uniform at that level
• When the defense takes possession of the ball, the game clock begins running on the ‘ready’ signal from the official
That final rule could eliminate up to 25 plays per game, and short games by several minutes.
Has this already been posted? I was amazed at the last rule concerning starting the clock after the defense gets posession. Teams had better be paying attention. If I am reading that correctly, the ref can start the clock as soon as he is ready after a turnover?? Does anyone interpret this differently?

I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the rules that will shorten the game by up to 25 plays. I suppose it cuts both ways, so it won't provide one team any advantage over the other.
However, from the standpoint of being a football fan, I don't like it. I LOVE THE GAME OF FOOTBALL, and to shorten by up to 25 plays cuts down on my Football time (but may increase my tailgating time
Can I get a reduction of my season ticket price that is equivalent to the shortened amount of football.

i expect teams will adjust and get their teams out onto the field quicker knowing the rules change. The other issue is that with most of our games televised, they will just have their tv timeouts after changes of possession so it will not have as big of an impact. The one about the clock starting as the ball is kicked seems like it may have a large impact at the end of games.

I wondered if the kick off ruling would promote or demote squib kicking. I think that at the end of a game (Mr. Groshelle) you would want to kick it high and deep to run the clock and make your opponent go the length of the field.tetoncat wrote:i expect teams will adjust and get their teams out onto the field quicker knowing the rules change. Some good comments from some 1-a coaches on the game clock changes.
