Thank you, Lute. Classy post respecting a man who had nothing but class. He was a terrific individual. Condolences to his family.

RIP. Class guy who respected the rivalry.

Always a tough time for family and friends.

My condolences as well. Coach Read always seemed like a decent guy. He came along before the rivalry got real bitter. Was the beneficiary of Daddy Warbucks building a new stadium over the hill. The period of griz football was bad, real bad, before he got there. The previous 15 seasons saw the griz with losing records in 11 of those. He was a good coach, but I can't imagine he reaches the level of success that he did without having to coach his games in old Dornblaser Field.

I have spoken with numerous people who played for him and 100% have gushed about how much they respected him. A good friend of mine, who never saw the field but stuck with the program all five years said, "I was way down on the depth chart and never played, but he treated me like I was a starter. Outside of my parents I have not had another person have as much influence on me as he did." Never met the man but he sounds like a class act through and through. We need more guys like that guiding young men.

He’s one in my opinion that started the build the Gris to what they have today. Mr. Hauck should take time read a few chapters in his book of “How to talk to the media and your “ little brother to the east” Nothing but respect for Don Read

With success comes attention, with attention comes cockiness, with cockiness comes arrogance, with arrogance comes rudeness...and they wonder why I hate the Griz ! FTG

I remember well his comments after The Streak ended. He was like Finally! Now hopefully we can get some parity and make this thing a rivalry like it should be. R.I.P.

A few friends of mine were starting WRs during the Dickenson Days and both appreciated Coach Read along with the way he went about his job and his demeanor. They’re in Frisco with about what seems every player from the two championship teams.

I never met the guy other than passing in Adams when I went to school there in 1989-90 but the games were fun to go to that season and they made the semifinals.

A brilliant offensive mind for sure.

I totally agree. Coach Read was a class act, the complete reversal of the what’s-his-name current coach.

58-57!! You're final score!! Daniel Salle
