Re: Fall Camp 2022
The two freshman that have stood out so far are Taco Dowler and Christian Anaya both WRs. I think both these guys are going to be huge impact players not far down the road. They will have an impact this year, especially Taco. The other freshman to keep an eye on is RB Jared Wright. He looks really good.coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 3:11 pmI think this may have been discussed either here or elsewhere already but now that we're a week into fall camp, which true freshmen are most likely to make an impact on the field this year?
Also, someone asked about transfer Dru Polidore playing Safety. I believe he has been playing safety in practice recently.

If Coy Steel is healthy does Taco see the field as a return specialist, and if he's not a returner has he shown enough to play WR already, where he'd also be behind Coy or someone else with experience? If Coy isn't ready to return (literally) then I definitely see Taco getting time.bobcatbob wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 4:20 pmThe two freshman that have stood out so far are Taco Dowler and Christian Anaya both WRs. I think you will see Taco as a returner even if Coy is healthy. Also, Taco has looked really good at the WR position. This kid is a player. Sure hands, fast and runs good routes. I think he will see time at WR no matter what. They are going to find a way to get him touches.coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 4:45 pmIf Coy Steel is healthy does Taco see the field as a return specialist, and if he's not a returner has he shown enough to play WR already, where he'd also be behind Coy or someone else with experience? @Cataholic why don’t you PM someone in the know like Vim or Tomcat (who reported on the kid being suspended 6 games with no other follow up) then you can come back and apologize once you find out the tough news. I won’t even say “I told you so”.

So how’s that OL competition looking so far?
Is the starting 5 set for the scrimmage this weekend or how are they handling that?

Jesus man, I can't play CB anymore. I definitely couldn't have played it at more than an 8th grade level. I appreciate the vote of confidence, but let's let the kids who have eligibility and athleticism at this point vie for the starting lineup. Uh oh… we need Gtapp in here to figure this crap out. Marcus says he came to MSU at 215 pounds and he’s 290 now. He’s a Sophomore. Also, some Griz player said he’s gained almost 40 pounds in one year. I swear I saw my post for a bit and then it disappeared... strange. Anyway, VIM - I had asked you about some other players on the roster, or maybe you can respond to that other post with your projected two deep. I threw out names like Okada, Price, Takhari Carr, Miles Jackson?VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 2:08 pmIf Rhedi Short wasn't on campus, this would be a major topic for discussion. If we didn't get him, here is the depth chart opposite Jeffrey Manning:BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 1:50 pmI think a starter out for half the season is pretty relevant to Bobcat football, but maybe that’s just me.
- Zambrano was moved to safety in the spring and is now gone for personal reasons
- Tyson Pottenger is a favorite among the coaching staff and has gotten 1st team reps in the competition with Rhedi for that other safety spot
- Kendrick Bailey was hurt most of last year but has consistently made the depth chart
- Connor Ryan is a sophomore who is also in competition at the nickel spot
- Other redshirt freshman include Aidan Parks, Eli Aby, and Jake D'Agostino
- Other true freshman include Kade Culter (though he greyshirted), Max Kimball, Caden Dowler, and Michael Armstrong
Of course Ty could always move back to one of the spots but he's much more effective at nickel so you'd lose positional value. Again, Tyson has been a pleasant surprise with the only thing really holding him back is his size which just needs further development. Glad we have Rhedi that's all I'm saying. Rylan will be great to have back for the second half because he provides starter-level play at both safety and nickel in our defense.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Re: Fall Camp 2022
I have no doubt Gary knows what he's talking about, but sometimes I wonder if he's taking into account that these guys are still developing physically. I don't think it's out of the ordinary for kids that age to just "fill out" naturally even without weight training. I don't mean to be argumentative...I'd love to have a discussion about it. I also think creatine is just filling muscles with water, which accounts for a lot of weight gain...BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 7:20 amI believe Gary is saying you typically aren’t gaining 30 lbs of muscle in a year.catatac wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 12:32 amUh oh… we need Gtapp in here to figure this crap out. I don’t know for a fact why he’s suspended. I have second hand info on it. You can speculate all you want. That’s what the board is for, but I don’t think you should claim to know anything factually unless you can produce concrete evidence or an admission by the accused.HookedOnGriz wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 8:05 pmYou guys talk about Bobby and Robby so much more than the Cats, I’d say you are egriz 100%.GeauxCats41 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 3:45 pmWe’re not EGRIZ though. From where it sits currently, I’d just say that the prudent thing to do is wait for further information. However, there probably won’t be anything else revealed.
As for steroids, I don’t like to hear players use them, but we’d be naive to think they don’t. I don’t think the current system being deployed is very effective or much of a deterrent. Hopefully, that will get corrected someday.
Always remember that it’s just a game. Things go haywire when anyone forgets that. Taking steroids tells me that someone has forgotten that the most important thing about sports is that they aren’t important at all. There are many other things going on that show people forget it’s just a game besides steroids. Fans, players, coaches, etc all take things way too seriously. I’m guilty of that myself, but have gotten much better over the years.
