It's halfway through the July evaluation period, and a number of Oregonians from the Class of 2006 are starting to receive serious first Division I love. You can add Cory Davis to the list of those who can now claim a full-ride offer. The quick 5-foot-10, 160-pound point guard from West Salem High School racked up his first one after some nice performances at a couple of camps down in Southern California, and he's hoping a strong showing in Las Vegas will lead to even more options.
"The camps were pretty good," Davis said. "West Coast Camp was good - I made the Best of the Best there. Pangos Camp was pretty good too - I was supposed to make the all-star team, but they messed up something with my name and somebody else's name. But I've just been hooping every day, just shooting and stuff."
Because of the way that Davis was able to show off his skills with his shooting, ball-handling, and floor leadership at the two camps, one school from the Big Sky Conference has made a step forward in his recruitment.
"I got offered by Montana State," Davis said. "I don't really know anything about them, but I'm definitely going to keep in contact with them. It feels good."
Davis noted that he's also been contacted recently by Portland State, Montana, Idaho, and Oregon State, and said that Portland Panthers AAU coach Reggie Guyton has gotten calls from schools such as USC and Boston College. He's keeping all of his options open right now, and is preparing to show more coaches his abilities in Vegas.
"I'm just waiting right now," Davis said. "I want to get my teammates involved, and play to my best ability. Hopefully, we'll get some wins."
