PEEBLES TO WALK ON

Post by SACCAT » Tue Mar 22, 2005 9:29 am

I just heard that Matt Peebles (sp?) is going to walk on to the football team next year. He was a first team all state player for Gardner in B-Ball.

Good luck next year Matt.

Any more information on this kid? Think he will be able to start in a few years? Position?

I'm so desperate for football info right now it's sick.

Peebles was actually a center at Shields Valley. He's around 6'4 and 250. From everything I've seen hes a big old dominant lineman type. Scared the coach of Gardiner in both sports

So Attleberry (again sp?) got the school wrong on the sports this morning. He was the one that said it. I was sure he said Gardner. But where ever the kid is from, it is one more Montana Kid we have. And one more Great story to keep in mind.

I thought he is a preferred walk-on.

Correct.

From the Helena Independent Record:

HelenaIR wrote:MSU has added three 'preferred' walk-ons to its 90-man roster. Two are out of Skyview High School in Billings, while the other is from Shields Valley High School.......Matt Peebles, a 6-foot-2, 255-pound defensive lineman, was a first team Class C All-State performer on both offense (center) and defense (end) the past two years. He also competes in basketball and track (discus).
Another interesting tidbit from this same article:
HelenaIR wrote:From the bleachers: Five ex-Northern Arizona Lumberjack assistants were on the sidelines at Super Bowl XXXIX: Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid, Eagle assistants Brad Childress (offensive coordinator), Tom Melvin (tight ends) and Marty Mornhinweg (senior assistant) and Dante Scarnecchia, the assistant head/offensive line coach of New England. Mornhinweg was also a quarterback at Montana in the mid-80s.

A preferred walk-on will be able to get carried off the field after the last two plays while the crowd chants "Rudy, Rudy, Rudy..."

:)

In all seriousness, I think that a "preferred walk-on" has the assumption of already claiming a spot on the 90-man roster, just without a schollie. A regular run-of-the-mill walk-on will have to try out to make the squad in the fall.

Also preferred walk-ons can report with the regulat players...the regular walk-ons report when school starts.
