Michael Jefferson - NFL Talent???

Post by HelenaCat95 » Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:04 am

Does Jefferson have the talent to play on Sundays?
If so, is he draftable or more likely a Free Agent signing?
Invite to Combine?

Thoughts?

From what was reported on the Sports Nuts yesterday almost all the NFL teams have been in to see Jefferson. Seems the Bears are the most interested at this time. This was coming from Bill Lamberty (sp?).

Also sounds like there might be some interest in Hirst as well.

Most certainly he does...no question. If not for a personality conflict at Arizona, he would be having a successful season in the Pac 10.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

I think that he definitely has the talent to at least generate some real interest. Draft is doubtful (not impossible), but I think there's a good chance a FA signing is in the cards. For him, I think all of it hinges on how he performs in the last 7 games of this season. Yes, I said last SEVEN games of this season.

Related question: Do you think that the (thusfar) big difference in his stats on carpet vs. grass will have an effect on teams looking at him?

I like his chances he has the size that gatwood lacked and has real similar speed!! I would look for him possible in the 6th-7th if drafted, that is if he keeps putting great stats on the board.

If he played in Missoula, he would be the first overall pick. Since he plays for MSU, he will get a shot and may be drafted in the later rounds. Everyone knows that UM has more talent, just ask'em. <sarcasm>

I think the stats are circumstantial more than the playing surface. Jefferson has the same speed and quickness in practice on the grass.

He has the size and probably the speed. If he continues to put up the numbers and eventually play in Senior Bowl or something like that and performs well draft would be possible. If his 40 time is good teams would take a look. Anyone know what he runs?

Get real yourself. I seem to remember plenty of griz fans talking about players like Jefferson Heidelberger and Levander Segars getting drafted. Currently, there have been plenty of people talking about how high Lex will get drafted, and how Craig Chambers and Josh Swogger are NFL-caliber players who have a shot at getting drafted. I think Bobcat fans talking about Michael Jefferson possibly getting drafted is far more realistic than any of those other players (Lex being the exception).

Your right, Jefferson has a much better shot at the draft than Lex for sure. I love Lex but he doesn't fit the NFL running back style. No one ever thought Heidelberger or Segars would get drafted.

Justin green on the other hand got drafted and will have a career in the league for sure. One of my more favorite Griz.

Pssstt! The Cat is out of the bag. Do you really think that the only players who are NFL caliber go to dUMb?

Maybe all of the NFL scouts who are paying attention to Jefferson are really just burning up their expense accounts to get in some fall fly fishing....................yea, right!

Lots of Griz fans say lots of stuff just like fans of any team. The reality is often something else.

Myself, I'd be surprised if Lex is drafted. He will be considered a "twiner". Good size but to small for a full back. Decient speed/power but not break away speed necessary as a tail back. Pass recieving is unknown because we don't throw to the backs often. Additionally, I think his durability will be questioned. PFA for him as well.

IOM Jefferson and Levander never had a chance for the NFL. I thank them for being a Griz and all they contributed to the Griz but that's as far as they could go. They were to small and/or to slow.

Your Jefferson has decient size but the fact that he couldn't see the field without transfering down pretty much nagates a lot. He will get "looks" but PFA at best. Of course, this is just my opinion.

And yes, scouts burn lots of time and money fishing. Why else would anyone be a scout!

Thanks-you just made my point.

Any coach or player can find the time to go fishing at the appropriate time, but any NFL scout (player personel) during college ball season is looking for NFL prospects.
