You obviously didn't undertstand any of the conversations that took place regarding scheduling D-II schools over the past several months.

Nope guess I didnt, but if the bobcats make the playoffs instead of the griz, now we have something to blame it on!

You're getting closer ... although it isn't a much a "blame" thing as it is a "reason" thing. This past year has been illustrative of how the selection committee works, and how teams should structure their schedules accordingly.

Some fair points were raised in the more recent discussions about how the playoff selection committee operates. However, if we're going to discuss the topic of fan reactions to D-II games, I think it needs to be acknowledged that Cat fans were talking smack about UM's matchup with Ft. Lewis long before this past season ever started; the entire discussion was not simply a product of UM's making the playoffs and MSU's failure to do so. Given that, I think Cat fans have to expect some backlash if they now schedule a D-II school next season (although UM has also scheduled Central Washington, and thus has little room to talk).

I dunno...to me, the bottom line is, both schools usually play a D-II school. We all hate to see it, but it's not that easy to get I-AA and I-A schools to come to Missoula and Bozeman, so we schedule who we can. You won't hear me rubbing Cat fans' noses in the fact that they're playing Adams State next year, but given that both teams usually do it at least once per year, it would be nice if Cat fans would remember this if ever, heaven forbid, another year arises when the Griz play down a level and the Cats do not.

I agree with you GL. Playing a DII is hardly a rare occurance for either of our teams. That is the reason I tried not to pile on the Griz too much last year about the Ft. Lewis game... I knew the 'Cats would be playing DII's for several years to come.

These games can provide excellent opportunities for us to work out kinks, and polish things up... only in the past they have seemed like stuggles in focus and execution. Both UM and MSU have felt that bite recently.

I guess the bottom line is that now we know the Selection Committee does, in fact, put heavy consideration in overall record no matter who the competition is. We can take comfort in knowing we can put an easy mark in the W column (I hope to X!).

I don't have a problem with either school playing down a division, but I would hope the AD would consider the quality of the D-II school. I'm not sure about scholarships, etc. for Adams State but I hope they're at least a competitive D-II school - they were a couple years ago if I remember correctly. Ft. Lewis was a terrible D-II team. Games like that are pretty lame IMO.
