Meltdown in progress...

I know some of you don't peruse egriz but I highly recommend it this morning. The meltdown that is underway following consecutive thrashings of the Griz is very entertaining.

In the middle of it all, unfortunately, is the continuing rumor that Hauck is leaving.

If that does end up being the case, it may be the saddest day of the 2005 season for the Bobcat Nation...

Let me get these out of the way before our friendly rivals log on:

Oh yeah, but UM.....

- Made the playoffs, at least
- Has a nicer stadium
- Has more Montana kids than the Bobcats
- Has the self proclaimed best fans in the world
- Would still be winning every Cat-Griz game if they weren't focused on the playoffs or if the turf was in better shape or .........
- Has a wonderful 20 year tradition that trumps anything MSU has ever done (even winning 3 National Championships)

Did I miss any?

They also invented stadium music, fan chants, have a national mascot of the year (Monte the furball), and invented the internet.

You're right for sure, El_Gato, but that's how we - over there - reforge. And it's not a rumor that Hauck, etc., are gone... they were told that in October. Again, it's how we avoid being the Browns - or Cats.

And you're right for saying that this will be sad news - over here. Hope you enjoyed it while you had it, 'cause it's over, baby... OVER!!

If Hauck's replacement is no better than "as good" as Bobby, I'll be thrilled!

Yes. 1st "National Championship" was a zero-zero tie in NAIA, second "National Championship" was Division II.

Was Montana playing football then? How were they doing?

Oh wait, that was before 1986 so I guess it doesn't count.

When you say "avoid being the Browns or Cats", do you mean teams with a football tradition longer than the average lifespan of a horse?

Oh, I forgot, anything accomplished pre-1986 doesn't count and probably didn't even happen.

Ok, I'll take that.

Need we more confirmation than this?

MaZooLaGriz is officially "the average Griz fan".

Please keep posting because we love your examples of how to be a first-class, grade-A, farm-fresh Griz ballzac... just keep it here on the smack board.

Once again, thanks for pointing out the Cat's amazing feat of being the only institution of higher learning to win national championships at 3 different levels!

A 0-0 tie? Yup, and we still have the hardware that says national champs.

I want to clarify something. The Cats were declared national champions in 1956 because they remained undefeated. St. Joseph's (the opponent) had 1 loss. I think I got that from Pat Kearney's book. Check there, but I remember hearing that somewhere.

And I hear that the field was bad, or else we would have beat them easily ... and we were gaining momentum as time expired, so if there had been overtime rules in place, we would have won for sure.

Oh well, we won the National Title either way, and even though I was negative 16 years old at the time, it was the greatest day of my very, very young life to that point.

The griz fans attempts to discount our 56 title is simply more of their typical pathetic gibberish.

I've often posed this to them, in an effort to give them a "clue" just how stupid their denials of our first championship are.

Everyone remember Nebraska/Miami in the 1983 Orange Bowl? For those who don't, Nebraska entered the game 12-0. Late in the game, Nebraska scored a TD and pulled to within 1 of Miami, 31-30. Everyone involved with college football KNEW that Nebraska would be named National Champs if they simply kicked the extra point and finished the game tied with the Hurricanes. Coach Tom Osborne instead decided to WIN the game, the Huskers didn't get the 2 point conversion, Nebraska lost & Miami won the NC.

The fact remains, though, that had Nebraska simply tied the game at 31, they would have won the NC. That's the same thing that happened in 56; we tied the game but were still named the National Champs because of our record/schedule. I've seen the link to an official NCAA website where it clearly names MSU the 1956 National Champions, but I lost it and have not looked for it again.

There's also another very easy way to defend that title: If the GRIZ had achieved the same results that year, including the 0-0 tie in the title game, does ANYONE believe they wouldn't be claiming that championship?

Of course not. Whine about it & belittle it all you want, griz fans; the fact remains the Bobcats EARNED that title and nothing you classless folks can ever do or say will ever erase it.

I have to add that I was negative 29 when that happened. The one thing that's clear, regardless of all of the Grizzly whining, is that the Cats have 3 NCs and the Griz have 2. Cats win again!

Who other than, a bunch of kittens, Who would be obsessed with a TIE, that happened 50 years ago? Dawson community college maybe?
Obsessing? No.

Bringing up the fact that MSU has more national titles than UM? Yes.

However, you do have many more "Home Playoff Game Bid Awardee" banners.

Outside of the fact that it is on the list of schools whose academic requirements are too high for your enrollment, what does DCC have to do with your attempt at smack? That doesn't even make sense ... said the guy who realized that he was pointing out something very obvious.

Usually bb doesn't bother me ... but sometimes, just sometimes, it saddens me that a person can be that stupid and that obnoxious at the same. It makes a guy pine for the good ol' days when Darwinism was in full force and the really dumb ones didn't make it to breeding age.
