The good news for lakesbeagle is that at least for a few days he can stop telling the world how jealous of UND he is and can use us instead. :-({|=

Did Field say

or

I listened to the podcast and I think he tried to shorten Methodist and realized he just said Southern Meth and then corrected himself.

From what I can tell lakesbeagle in in a class of his own in Buffalo town. The rest that post here are upset with the cancellation but reasonable about it. None of us like that we cancelled, but it is what it is.

It's hilarious that NDSU fans are complaining about the ethics of what MSU and Fields did, which was entirely contractual and legal. When 10 NDSU football players forged tens of thousands of signatures by copying names from telephone books for pay, there was a chorus from these fans that it really wasn't that big a deal. Screws up a state election? No big deal according to them. They stood behind their AD when he absolutely refused to suspend any of them even after all of them pleaded guilty as hell in court - because it really wasn't that "wrong" in their eyes. But, suddenly, to follow a contract and abide by its terms, these same fans that aren't incensed by illegal actions are morally outraged by MSU's actions. "What MSU did is morally OUTRAGEOUS and repulsively UNETHICAL", they scream.   Either have to laugh or barf with regards to these clowns.

What's more, you'll be hearing their whining for years on message boards. :-({|= NDSU fans declare the Big Sky the Big Fluffy, so they reject the idea that MSU will be a good game anyway. Ironic about all the crappy names tossed at the Big Sky teams, yet they are heartbroken when a game against one of the Big "Fluffy" teams doesn't come to Fargo.

NDSU's AD is just pissed because he has to go back hat in hand to their fan club and ask for more money to spend $300 K to bring in another team. It isn't about ethics to him (ethics has never been important to him), it's about money. Well guess, what: NCAA football is now all about money.

a Sioux fan talking about ethics. that's rich, its funny how everyone ignores him on here. abusive is your logo for 90 years towards native americans, not a man to man PRIVATE message.

I have done no smack talking whatsoever. just relaying thoughts from fargo to Bozeman. I have enough cred with Bozeman and bobcat fans with our partying here a few years back, I set up the tailgate at the police station and helped raise over $500 for a fallen policeman in your area. that along with a editorial written about me by bobcat fans, im sorry, but I've done nothing wrong on this website and bay cat seems like he understands that.

now back on topic, we are not "whining" no no no.

if you say its for a game in texas, where is Stephen F Austin located? Texas.
If its for money purposes' its basically a wash.
if you need another home game, how about NDSU comes to Bozeman, you give us every single ticket outside your booster club/students.
if its for your fcs playoff position just say so.

any answers to those above will be helpful... and Ill leave you guys be for awhile , in the meantime ill be reminiscing over my texas trip video's from jan.

I'll answer these in order, but the main item is No. 2 (money purposes)
1. SFA is located in Texas, but SMU is located in the Dallas area, which is prime recruiting country for MSU and also the home of several current players, including four seniors. SFA is 185 miles away from Dallas and 140 from Houston with lots of traffic congestion. Tough to get recruits from either location to Nacogdoches (SFA).
2. It isn't a wash. MSU was faced with a five home game schedule. Five home games vs. six home games is probably in the neighborhood of $500,000 for MSU. The money from buying out NDSU and bring in Monmouth (-$300,000) and playing SMU (+$300,000) is a wash, but thats only part of the picture. MSU gains a considerable amount of money from a single home game and has $4 million from the State to pay off for its EZ addition, not to mention designs on other additions to the stadium.
3. I'm sure your AD and our AD think that is nonsense.
4. It has nothing to do with FCS playoff position. MSU probably has a better chance of beating NDSU than SMU. NDSU is good, but not as good as SMU. So even if consider MSU loses to either one, it doesn't improve or decrease MSU's playoff position.

If you trust the BCS computers the above statement is not true, at the end of the season the computers had SMU at #57, MSU at #90, and NDSU at #35. All DI teams are ranked.

That's why I said even if you figure we lose to both..., but yeah, OK, if you give the computers the benefit of the doubt we might drop a little further from losing to SMU than to NDSU. I kind of doubt it would make a signficant differnce either way and isn't likely to affect our seeding, assuming we're a seeded team.

My understanding of Sagarin, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that it is not intended to compare FBS to FCS. I really doubt NDSU was the 35th best college team in the country at the end of last season.

One more important reason this was a necessary move for MSU, that the sixth home game especially one the Thhursday before labor day weekend is huge for the Bozeman community. It will generate millions of dollars here in Bozeman between hotel occupancy, bars and reasturants and overall shopping. We could not schedule a Div II school on that Thursday because they are not allowed to play in August. This is the only way we could make it work. It was the right move for MSU!

Only 5 home games wouldn't be so bad in an 11 game season, but not in a 12 game season. That's yet yet another reason this move was made.

But for how long has MSU known it was a 12-game season and that a home game is good for local businesses? Did they just realize this a week ago?
