Washington-Griz stadium?

Post by autocat » Wed Aug 26, 2009 5:19 pm

What is so great about Was-Griz stadium? It has lots of seating? what is it? You have to walk single file throughout the stadium? Standing in line at one of the 3 concession stands for 20 minutes? Using one of the 4 toilets? Parking 5 miles away? Maybe the claustrophobic atmosphere? Walking over the bridge and give money to the homeless? Sitting next to the most knowledgeable football fans in the country? Watching the Griz blow-out lower level teams?

Don't forget the playoff games.

It's an ok stadium, ok, it's a pretty damn nice stadium if you like concrete. Granted it seats about 25,000 which is cool and it's compact so the fan noise is very effective which helps in home games. Tailgating is ok, but I much prefer the more 'open tailgating' at MSU. Parking sucks-always has. Coach sucks- always has, er.... well at least since Hauck. Fans suck- always have.

Bottom line is, it's easy to look like a "Diamond" in a goats ass if situated in a sh!thole like fizzoula........

Not particularly difficult to answer this question: It's the best facility at this level. And better than many at the FBS level.

Couple that with terrific views in a gorgeous location; an on-campus stadium; extremely loud, passionate, knowledgeable fans; the weekly sell-outs; not a bad seat in the house; the playoff games; the ESPN comments that it's one of the loudest venues in the country; the tailgating; the NEZ; the game day atmosphere (top 25 in the nation per SI) and you've got your answer.

Easier to spot the 'Diamond' when you don't live in the sh!thole isn't it?

That's the best you can do?

I've never lived anywhere but Montana- Helena, sh!thole, and Bozeman, and the only reason I was ever in sh!thole was because of the current employment opportunity. I will admit that I'd move back to fizzoula before I'd live where you do, some places always suck worse than others.................

It has lots of seating? Yes (duh)

what is it? ???

You have to walk single file throughout the stadium? You're a fat bastard?

Standing in line at one of the 3 concession stands for 20 minutes? I wouldn't want to watch the Cats there either.

Using one of the 4 toilets? You need 5?

Parking 5 miles away? I bet you tell your boyfriend, "It's 10 inches" when, really, it's 2-3.

Maybe the claustrophobic atmosphere? Could be. It gets a little loud in there.

Walking over the bridge and give money to the homeless? Only if you have money to give.

Sitting next to the most knowledgeable football fans in the country? Are you sitting or at the concession stands or waiting to change your tampon?

Watching the Griz blow-out lower level teams? Until the playoffs, they're all LOWER LEVEL!!!

I love the stadium - how it's sunken in and how the crowd is so close to the field. Keeps the noise in and makes for a fun atmosphere. Parking sucks, tailgating is OK... location is pretty marginal. Mount Sentinal is not exactly what I would call "scenic", and that temp inversion they have going on over there is very unfortunate. Of course if Bozeman is your basis for comparison... they don't compare. I will say they have us on stadium quality though... for now! :D

The best part of Washington Grizzly stadium has not been seen yet but it is soon to come. It is an half filled stadium when Bobby takes his team to a 6-5 record.

Most on BN have given that Stadium credit for much of the griz success over the years and now we want to complain about it. I don't think you can have it both ways.

It goes further than a stadium. I've been to a few games at UTC, and although their stadium isn't too shabby, they aren't much of a SoCon power.

That's certainly true, Tampa. But gtapp has a great point (as he often does). If --as Cat fans like to claim -- the success the Griz have had is due largely to Wa-Griz, then it's impossible to claim that it's less than a top-notch facility. That said, I agree with you that the basic premise of the Cat fans claim is only fractionally correct. There is much, much, much more that has gone into the Griz success (and its longevity) than just a terrific stadium.
