Re: More Griz Thuggery
congrats on the new list griz!
i'm with born2bagriz on one aspect and say as a CAT fan, it's best to leave well enough alone. they are doing a good enough job to raise the question on SOME of their recruits.
it is unfortunate that a few (who should be held to a higher standard because of the opportunity they have been given), give a black eye to the rest who work hard and do a great job of representing themselves and their school. even further, it's too bad we don't focus on those (athletes and students) who do outstanding things every day.

Very good post. There are a large number of STUDENT/athletes who are doing great things every day, and like most things in life, a silent majority who just plug along.

You actually proved my point perfectly. I said he is staying away from parties where he could get in trouble at. (Meant frat and other random parties) I never said all he does is sit at home. He went to another football players house for a party. Not really gonna get into much trouble there because most of the people there are invited or with somebody that was invited and nobody is gonna be stupid enough to start a fight with a football player at another football players house. Sorry if I didn't make myself 100% clear.Hi-Line Bobcat wrote:I don't have a problem at all with the kid going out and having fun. I like to have fun and party, I was proving Bdizzle's point wrong. This kid hasn't changed his ways at all, and probably will never, that is all I was saying.
Tampa griz you are twice a problem so you tell me what it means.
But I agree with most posters on here that I hope both Cat and Griz players will stay out of trouble. Just play football, get an education, and enjoy college.

I think where the Kaiman comes in is that they want to be a voice for the students. I remember in the early 90's students protesting that the football team got what ever money they wanted but anything for education was shorted. Not sure if that is still the same feeling. That may be their beef...

Actually, the Kaimin is comprised of journalists from a Journalism school. They're good at getting a story. When is The Exponent going to report (or even get online...there's gotta be some smart guys at the engineering school) the details regarding the Bobcat players that have incurred multiple infractions without a single game suspension? Not one game?? What was their punishment? No roller-skating after midnight?WeedKillinCat wrote:I think where the Kaiman comes in is that they want to be a voice for the students.

As I recall they were "diciplined for violation of team rules" It came out shortly after the incident, when it all became public knowledge, Unlike the griz case where it was not public knowledge for 6 months until the kalmine broke the story and your coach had a hissy fit to the reporters.tampa_griz wrote:Well tell me....were they ever suspended for a game for either of their multiple infractions? You recall wrong. There was "violation of team rules" announcement for the first incident. Nothing for subsequent offenses. No investigation by any Bozeman media into any of the incidents either.cats2506 wrote:As I recall they were "diciplined for violation of team rules" It came out shortly after the incident, when it all became public knowledge, Unlike the griz case where it was not public knowledge for 6 months until the kalmine broke the story and your coach had a hissy fit to the reporters.tampa_griz wrote:Well tell me....were they ever suspended for a game for either of their multiple infractions? And it appears there were no game suspensions for any of the multiple infractions. Fair enough.

Tampa is right there were no game suspensions and the media seems to have stayed away. Daly lost his scholarship for the season for resisting arrest (after stealing beer) and DUI and Gazzerro had to sit out spring drills (after assaulting girlfriend), but I don't recall any punishment for being involved in a fight after that. You can debate which punishment was worse, I'll go with sitting out one game vs. a Div II team.tampa_griz wrote:You recall wrong. I also agree with tampa that the Bozeman media or Exponent should have dug into these things a little deeper to keep MSU accountable. What I deplore about the UM incidents is that after a player (Montelius and Swink or Johnson?) was roughed up/intimidated, he got some of his teammates to gang up on the other guy and severly beat him. That has a level of cowardice to it that is hard to stomach.

Re: More Griz Thuggery
I read a follow-up piece in the Kaiman, but there was no mention from Foley of what is being done or will be done to attempt to put an end to this stuff. Maybe the question wasn't asked, but you'd think they would be proactive and make a statement about what they will do. Makes it seem like the football program is bigger than the school. More cowardice?AlphaGriz1 wrote:Thats what gangbangers do.

up for debate: losing a scholarship for the year vs. sitting out one DII game. hmmmm?.Daly lost his scholarship for the season for resisting arrest (after stealing beer) and DUI and Gazzerro had to sit out spring drills (after assaulting girlfriend), but I don't recall any punishment for being involved in a fight after that. again, i think hauck, the griz and their fans are clearily demonstrating the character of their program without anyone having to add to it (you judge if that is bad or good or that one / few speak for the many).
since the CATS were brought into the discussion, i for one am pleased how Ash has handled these off field issues. i also understand that this sets the tone for future incidents - which WILL happen, but hopefully will be minimized by striking a tough but fair policy. we Cats fans should and can talk about it, but passing judgement on another program is only going to lead to fire when something comes up later for the Cats.
note: i didn't try to talk about the griz when discussing MSU's policy. doing the "yeah, but look at what you are doing" thing is an adolescence tactic to do so when you can't face the facts straight on.

Agreed.i for one am pleased how Ash has handled these off field issues
And likewise, I believe roughly 99% of people not-named-Alpha are happy with the way Hauck and UM have handled their off-the-field problems.
Sooooo, why are we still discussing this topic, again??
