So what is it that keeps the Griz hanging on to the "glory days?" My vote would be your totally sweet stadium or Monte.

I'm very happy going to the playoffs every year and playing in the Big Dance.

Kind of like what the griz are riding right now huh?

You do realize that the last NC won by the griz was already 5+ years ago. That streak will continue as well despite the maroon colored glasses many of you wear and who think that Chattanooga is a definite.
Yes, but we will continue to make the playoffs with a chance to get to Chattanooga while bozotown will continue on being satisfied w/ one win a year.

I think we've gone round and round about this enough already.

I have better luck when I go fishing on this site than when I fish the Clark Fork.

Well if the cats would've been a little more competative over the last 100 years the Griz might be a little more humble.

Because Montana has national title caliber players. Nearly everyone returns on a defense that gave up the fewest points in the BSC last year, and the offense should be dramatically improved.

But to answer your question, I'll let the experts do my talking for me. I will bet that when the polls come out, the Griz will be in the top 5 in the country. And I'll also bet that many of the top I-AA experts (Otto Fad, Matt Dougherty, David Coulson, Eric Germunder, Kent Schmidt) will likely all predict Montana will compete for the NC. That's good enough for me.
You lose Kevin Edwards, Shane Macintyre, Alan Saenz, Lance Spencer, Tyler Thomas... anyone else? You can hardly say "Nearly Everyone Returns on defense." If memory serves - I heard those names a lot and they will be missed... especially Saenz. Can't believe he didn't get a look by the NFL. You should hope they're just as good, because I did like you D last year. One interesting stat that will be fun to watch is your takeaway ratio. 2 years ago you guys were on fire getting turnovers. 38 to 16 for almost 1.5 takeaways per game... that's incredible. Last year wasn't that good but was still 30 to 17 for just over 1 takeaway per game. I can't count the number of games I've seen where you guys win thanks to a turnover. Granted, you've got a history of being pretty opportunistic and I know Bobby coaches focuses a lot on that stat in his coaching, but there is quite a bit of luck involved in that number. Your 03 stats were more of a normal year with 32 to 27 for a .3 per game ratio or something like that. If Lex keeps hanging on to the ball as well as he's demonstrated in the past, and you D continues to be opportunistic, you could be up in the +10 or so category. Personally I'm betting that this is the year you have the average "even" year or even negative 8) ... wait and see...

A lot of those TO's is gambling by the secondary and the DE's as well in my opinion. I really think you can turn that TO spicket off on the Griz if you just ram it down their throats. That is by and large their biggest strength and if they don't get those TO's they can be beat no ifs ands or butts about it. The teams that beat them last last year and in the NC game pretty much just shoved the ball down their throats into their smaller opportunistic defense. You can tell that is the type of defense that Hauck likes to recruit/coach.

Ahhh, the usual, predictable retort.

Now, it's time to cue Brokeback and his usual obsession with the first championship game that resulted in a tie.

Agreed CC - and it looks like Hauck might be changing his approach - bulking up the D line and backers, which sacrifices speed...

Kind of like what the griz are riding right now huh?

You do realize that the last NC won by the griz was already 5+ years ago. That streak will continue as well despite the maroon colored glasses many of you wear and who think that Chattanooga is a definite.

No, but it sure isn't 2001 either.....
