"They were so lucky!" says the fan of a team that literally won a game this year when a quarterback somehow fumbled on an attempted spike play.cat_stache_fever wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 7:13 pmMore MTHoops greatest hits:

Re: egriz....
The "luckiest" play in that game IMO was when ISU had 3rd and goal from the 2 and the Cats were mounting a goal line stand. ISU runs up the middle, the back gets stuffed at the 1 and fumbles the ball.
If the Cats recover that ball, we probably run them out of the stadium, as we had a 14 point lead and that would have flipped their 3rd quarter momentum.
If ISU recovers in the field of play, they face a 4th and goal at the 1 with a shaky FG kicking unit.
Instead, the ball trickles into the end zone and an ISU O-lineman falls on it for a TD, cutting our lead to 7.
TOTAL LUCK!

Re: egriz....
Glad you mentioned that play. Why were they awarded a TD?! Maybe it's just an NFL rule but i thought you couldn't advance a fumble. That ball should've been spotted where the fumble occurred.91catAlum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:32 amThe "luckiest" play in that game IMO was when ISU had 3rd and goal from the 2 and the Cats were mounting a goal line stand. Re: egriz....
The rule of "not advancing a fumble" only applies on fourth down plays and is intended to prevent teams from fumbling the ball intentionally in the hopes that their team recovers it. MSU scored a touchdown on a similar play earlier in the playoffs against Yale when Lamson fumbled into the end zone and Chris Long recovered it.cat_stache_fever wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 11:09 amGlad you mentioned that play. This was early in the game. If they try to kick this field goal and get it blocked, and they end up in a similar situation late, do they go for it instead of kicking? Funny to think about the repercussions of each play on end of game decisions91catAlum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 08, 2026 10:32 amThe "luckiest" play in that game IMO was when ISU had 3rd and goal from the 2 and the Cats were mounting a goal line stand. It was 3rd quarter. But yes you're right, if they had recovered that fumble outside the end zone and attempted a FG and had trouble, it would have definitely affected their decisions later in the game.4KornerKat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 7:50 pmThis was early in the game.
