Ichiro 4-5, 1 RBI, and the Mariners have the best record in baseball! Haha!

How is “America’s past time” home opener held in Japan?

Because we're all about multinationalism and multiculturalism and inclusivity now. It's a participation trophy world now.

Yeah...I don't get that at all. And then the teams come home and play a few more exhibition games, before resuming the regular season. That just makes no sense at all to me. It's fine with me if they want ot play some games in Japan, but it should be exhibition games only, and it certainly shouldn't be the MLB opener.

This isn't new. The first time Opening Day was held outside the USA was back in 2000 between the Mets and the Cubs in the Tokyo Dome.

Oh yeah, I know they've been doing this for awhile. But I never have liked it, and never will.

Would the amount of revenue generated really be that much less (if any) if they were just exhibition games, rather than the season-opening regular season games? And what is the rationale behind playing two regular season games, a week before all the other teams begin regular season play, and then coming home and playing a few more exhibition games? Just another gimmick by Bud Selig, the man who never met a gimmick he didn't like.

This is stupid. The one thing baseball has always had is nostalgia. All team should play their first regular season game on the same day, OPENING DAY.

To be fair, it was just the Mariners and the A's ... it's not like they sent real MLB squads over there.

Until there's a better team in the area to watch from time to time ... yeah, I guess so.

The A's need to get to San Jose (and the Giants need to stop blocking them) so they can become a real MLB team again. They've been kind of a joke for quite a few years now, especially in terms of their attendance.

Is the neighborhood around the coliseum as bad as they say it is?

Yeah, it is. Outside of walking the footbridge to the BART station, very few people venture outside of the confines of the stadium parking lots during events. Unlike most other modern stadiums, there are zero neighborhood bars and restaurants for people to hit before and after games.

It's not like you'll get gunned down if you walk the streets around there, but there are enough murders and other violent crimes in that area to scare most of your typical pro sports attendees from wanting to be there.
