Dave Niehaus dies

Dave Niehaus, voice of the Mariners and a Hall of Famer, died today at age 75. Seattle -- and particularly GiW -- mourns.

No one did it better than Dave, and baseball in the Northwest simply won't be the same without him. As Jay Buhner said, "He could call a sunset".

He'll be missed.

RIP Dave Niehaus.

I always enjoyed listening to his calls on TV, and also satellite radio. He's not just the baseball announcer for Seattle, but a much larger area, including Montana. After watching the playoffs and World Series with the announcers on TBS and Fox, it makes an announcer like Dave Niehaus that much better. To me, he ranks right up with Dean Alexander as one of my favorites. It won't be the same when Mariners baseball starts again in April.

CCC mourns as well. Dave was one of the best. I'll miss hearing his voice on the tv broadcasts. I can only hope they'll continue to honor him by replaying his grand slam call anytime a grand slam is hit. :kicksrock:

Agreed about Dean and Dave. Something about their voices that stays etched in your mind. I was really hoping that Dave would get another chance to broadcast a division series or ALCS. I never got tired of hearing his call of Griffey's slide even after the 1,000th time seeing it.

RIP Dave

He was a big part of my summer listening to Mariners baseball. It will not be the same without him. Only wish he would have gotten a ring.

My oh my I will miss your calls.

I just got interested in Mariners ball the past couple of years because of Rob Johnson; didn't know much about Dave til then; found out real quick about him and grew to enjoy his style. He had one of those voices that was unmistakable; glad I was able to hear him call a few games. Baseball just lost an icon... RIP Dave - Fly Away!

I saw a comment that a good number of fans in Seattle wanted the Mariners to get to the World Series so that Dave Niehaus could call the game on the radio. This clip is about as close as he ever got. My, oh my indeed.

If there's any doubt about the impact that Dave had on people in Seattle and the Pacific NW, simply take a quick look at the Facebook page that was set up to honor him yesterday:

Wow, I am seriously behind the news back home. :(

I remember listening to Niehaus ever since I was a little kid. He will definitely be missed by me and the rest of the fans in Seattle.
