MT Recruits - Tier 5

Post by VimSince03 » Sat Feb 01, 2020 9:04 pm

Tier 5 - "The Projects

Prospects in this tier:

- have an outside chance of being preferred walk-on FCS football player but likely will only get offers from lower level programs
- may receive full-scholarship offers from NAIA schools in-state and several other lower division schools out-of-state but may just be partials
- are considered above average NAIA players if they sign at that level
- will commonly redshirt if they sign with a lower level program (DII, DIII, NAIA) and will likely contribute within first two years (not necessarily start)
- commonly referred to as "projects" if they get offered by either in-state FCS school
- get the "project" designation because they have one or two traits FCS programs believe they can develop
- will 100% redshirt if they sign with a Cats or Griz and will need at least three years of development prior to playing their junior years (may never be starters)
- will commonly be on the roster bubble at the FCS level after their first year in the program
- are bordering on preferred walk-on talent (FCS) but are missing a few traits (athletic ability, size, smarts, technique, etc.) that have a ceiling
- commonly have been selected All-State at least once during high school
- will commonly get selected as starters or alternates for either the Badlands Bowl or Shrine Game but not always both (rarely neither)
- have potential to be a backup/rotational player (FCS) at least one year with a good chance of being a multi-year starter at a lower level program

Missoula clearly won the 2021 recruiting battle. They have 3 signings from Tier 5 and we couldn't get any.

If Carson Hunter had more height he would be an FCS level player. He is the best Class A QB Ive seen.

If Sloan is given a chance to develop and he buys in, he could make one heck of a TE by Year 4 in the program (junior). I just don't see the speed translating so if he gets too big, OL might even be a possibility. He's a great basketball player and just a natural athlete overall so he has a shot.

Zach Evans will have to make it as a FB (if that ever becomes a thing again in UM's offense) or the interior of the defensive line (if he adds good weight). He'll have a tough road regardless but if they try him out at LB or TE I'm not sure he makes it on the team past year 2.

Camden Casper is a kicker...and I just don't ever know what to think about kickers and their development. However, Camden can definitely boot it and he's pretty accurate coming out of high school. I mean...why not get him in your program right? Added bonus that the Griz have had a ton of success with in-state kickers.
