15 AA schools totaling roughly 90% of Montana student population. Zero of them voted in favor of powerlifting. I’m not saying AA should rule all of Montana sports, but it does give an indication of the reception powerlifting will get.
Lots of talk about which sports season are you going to take away from. Football? Wrestling? Track? So there is discussion of a shoulder season sport starting the Monday after divisional wrestling is done and ending the first weekend of track. That’d be the only solution in my opinion.
Can anyone chime in and the true functional benefit of power lifting on a growing adolescent body? I’m a strong proponent of strength training, but in a functional way that helps development long term health and translates into many different facets of life and other sports. I can see powerlifting (more frequent max bench, squat, and deadlift) as having a high percentage of injury, if for no other reason, due to the lack of truly qualified coaches across a large number of schools in the state.
