2019 MT High School Football - Week 3

Post by VimSince03 » Fri Sep 13, 2019 3:18 pm

Class AA

1.) Billings West (2-0)
2.) Butte (2-0)
3.) Missoula Sentinel (2-0)
4.) Helena Capital (2-0)
5.) Helena High (2-0)
6.) Missoula Big Sky(1-1)
7.) Bozeman (1-1)
8.) Missoula Hellgate (1-0)
9.) Billings Senior (0-2)
10.) Kalispell Glacier (1-1)

Game(s) of the Week: Helena High @ Butte; Billings Senior @ Bozeman; Kalispell Glacier @ Helena Capital; Missoula Hellgate @ Missoula Big Sky

Player(s) of the Week (#2): Butte QB Tommy Mellott - 24/33 for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns along with 7 carries for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns vs. CMR

Special Notes: Tommy has raised his game to a whole other level in 2019. In two games, he's gone 42/56 for 675 yards with 8 touchdowns/1 interception as well as 12 carries for 176 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. He's averaging 425 yards and 5 touchdowns per game thus far. Billings West WR Connor Ryan also deserves some praise early in the season as he's gone over 400 yards receiving in two games.

Class A

1.) Hamilton (2-0)
2.) Miles City (2-0)
3.) Frenchtown (2-0)
4.) Laurel (1-0)
5.) Dillon (1-1)
6.) Billings Central (1-0)
7.) Libby (2-0)
8.) Lewistown (1-1)
9.) Sidney (2-0)
10.) Havre (1-1)

Game(s) of the Week: Billings Central @ Sidney; Miles City @ Laurel

Player(s) of the Week (#2): Hamilton RB Landon Duce - 26 carries for 192 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns with a 21 yard reception

Special Notes: Could've given this to Carson Rostad once again as he put up another 5 touchdown performance in Week 2. But Landon eclipsed 200 total offensive yards as Coach Carver continues to find production at the RB position each year. Speaking of RB performances, Havre's Mason Dionne had a standout performances against Glendive as he ran for two scores and also scored a touchdown on a 98-yard kickoff return.

Class B

1.) Fairfield (1-0)
2.) Eureka (2-0)
3.) Missoula Loyola (1-1)
4.) Manhattan (1-0)
5.) Huntley Project (1-1)
6.) Malta (1-0)
7.) Red Lodge (2-0)
8.) Glasgow (1-0)
9.) Florence (1-1)
10.) Townsend (1-1)

Game(s) of the Week: Baker @ Glasgow; Eureka @ Deer Lodge; Red Lodge @ Colstrip

Player(s) of the Week (#2): Fairfield QB Keeley Bake - 235 rushing yards for 3 rushing touchdowns along with 2 passing touchdowns vs. #3 Missoula Loyola

Special Notes: Fairfield has consistently produced at the QB position mostly because Coach Les Meyer always puts his best athlete at the position. Keeley continued that trend as he absolutely ran all over Missoula Loyola (one of the best teams in the state). Quite a way to kick off the Eagles 2019 campaign.

Class C (8-man)

1.) Fairview (2-0)
2.) Shelby (2-0)
3.) Alberton/Superior (2-0)
4.) Drummond/Philipsburg (1-1)
5.) Fort Benton (2-0)
6.) Great Falls Central (2-0)
7.) Belt (1-1)
8.) Joliet (1-1)
9.) Park City (2-0)
tie10.) Centerville (2-0)
tie10.) West Yellowstone (2-0)

Game(s) of the Week: Park City @ West Yellowstone; Fort Benton @ Centerville

Player(s) of the Week (#2): Great Falls Central QB Shane Girres - Four total touchdowns (2 rushing/2 passing) vs. #7 Belt

Special Notes: Despite graduating a ton of talent on last year's State C 8-Man runner-up season, Shane Girres has been one of many steady performers for the Mustangs en route to their 2-0 start. Huge win over Belt last weekend.

Class C (6-man)

1.) Wibaux (2-0)
2.) Big Sandy (2-0)
3.) Richey/Lambert (2-0)
4.) Jordan (1-1)
5.) Hot Springs (2-0)
6.) Shields Valley (2-0)
7.) Westby/Grenora (2-0)
8.) Power/Dutton/Brady (2-0)
9.) White Sulphur Springs (1-1)
10.) Broadview/Lavina (2-0)

Game(s) of the Week: Big Sandy @ Westby/Grenora

Player(s) of the Week (#2): Gardiner RB Elijah Byrd - 129 rushing yards on 5 carries for 5 rushing touchdowns as well as 3 return touchdowns (punt/kickoff/interception) vs. Plenty Coups

Special Notes: Elijah had over 450 yards of offense in Week 1 but I decided Kade Strutz deserved kudos against a perennially tough Geraldine/Highwood squad. However, Elijah trumped his Week 1 performance with 8 total touchdowns in Week 2. Byrd is 100% a player to watch out of the 6-man ranks.

Vim, Libby has been making their games look pretty easy. Are they that good or is competition down in the NW part of the state this year?

No Libby has a talented Jr./Sr. class right now. They are the easy favorite to be the #1 seed in the NW this year. Yes...Columbia Falls is down this year as they lost to Polson in Week 1. Polson just lost to Whitefish last week (who Libby dismantled the week prior).
