2017 MT HS Football - Week 9

Post by VimSince03 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 1:57 pm

Class AA

Potential Playoff Seeds:

1.) Billings Senior (8-0)
2.) Helena High (6-1)
3.) Missoula Big Sky (6-2)
4.) Helena Capital (6-2)
5.) Billings West (5-3)
6.) Kalispell Flathead (4-3)
7.) Missoula Sentinel (4-3)
8.) Kalispell Glacier (3-4)

Bottom Six (Currently out of playoffs):

9.) Bozeman (3-5)
10.) Great Falls CMR (3-5)
11.) Great Falls High (2-6)
12.) Butte (2-6)
13.) Billings Skyview (2-6)
14.) Missoula Hellgate (0-8)

Player of the Week (Week 8 ): Helena High RB Kyle Tabbert - 227 total offensive yards (150 rushing/77 receiving) on 20 touches for 4 touchdowns

Games of the Week (Week 9): Helena Capital at Billings Senior (Senior clinches the #1 seed with a win while Capital clinches a Top 4 seed with a win); Missoula Sentinel at Helena (Sentinel clinches a playoff berth with a win while Helena clinches a Top 2 seed with a win); Billings West at CMR (West is currently sitting alone in 5th place in AA and are a game behind Big Sky and Capital for a top 4 seed. West also has losses to both so they wouldn't have a tiebreaker. Meanwhile, CMR is fighting for their playoff lives as they need to win out to have a chance with West this week and Great Falls next.); Glacier at Big Sky (Glacier is officially on fire with three straight wins, putting themselves back into the playoff hunt. If they win their final two games against Missoula Big Sky and Hellgate, they should be in the playoffs. If Big Sky wins, they clinch a Top 4 seed.); Great Falls at Bozeman (Losing 5 straight games has put Bozeman in desperation mode as they need to win out to give themselves a chance at the playoffs.)

Class A

Rankings based on where I predict each team will finish in their conference by the end of the season:

1.) Dillon (7-0) #1 Southwestern A
2.) Columbia Falls (5-1) #1 Northwestern A
3.) Hamilton (7-1) #2 Southwestern A
4.) Sidney (7-1) #1 Eastern A
5.) Billings Central (7-1) #2 Eastern A
6.) Laurel (7-1) #3 Eastern A
7.) Miles City (6-2) #4 Eastern A
8.) Frenchtown (6-2) Wildcard - West Division
9.) Butte Central (4-3) Wildcard - West Division
10.) Lewistown (4-4) #5 Eastern A
11.) Glendive (4-4) #6 Eastern A
12.) Browning (4-4) #2 Northwestern A

In the hunt: Ronan (2-5)

Co-Players of the Week (Week 8 ): Dillon QB Coby King - 5 total touchdowns (3 passing/2 rushing); Columbia Falls RB Colten McPhee - 172 rushing yards for 3 touchdowns and an 80-yard kickoff return touchdown; Hamilton QB Carson Rostad - 26/40 for 350 passing yards for 2 touchdowns with 30 rushing yards on 7 carries; Hamilton RB Bridger Bauder - 210 rushing yards on 40 carries for 3 touchdowns and 2/2 on field goals

Games of the Week (Week 9): Laurel at Billings Central (Assuming Sidney wins, the winner of this one gets the #2 seed with a 1st-round bye and loser gets the #3 seed in the Eastern A); Sidney at Livingston (Despite last week's upset loss to Miles City, Sidney will clinch the Eastern A #1 seed with a win); Lewistown at Glendive (Winner clinches the #5 seed while the loser gets the #6 seed in Eastern A); Hamilton at Dillon (Winner clinches the Southwestern A #1 seed while loser gets the #2); Ronan at Browning (Winner clinches the Northwestern A #2 seed and gets to host a 1st-round playoff game while the loser is eliminated from playoff contention)

Class B

Rankings based on where I predict each team will finish in their conference by the end of the season:

1.) Eureka (7-0) #1 West
2.) Fairfield (8-0) #1 North
3.) Whitehall (8-0) #1 South
4.) Bigfork (6-1) #3 West
5.) Shelby (5-2) #2 North
6.) Colstrip (7-1) #1 East
7.) Manhattan (7-1) #2 South
8.) Huntley Project (6-2) #2 East
9.) Missoula Loyola (5-3) #2 West
10.) Malta (5-2) #3 North
11.) Big Timber (5-3) #3 South
12.) Roundup (5-3) #3 East
13.) Townsend (3-4) #4 South
14.) Shepherd (5-4) #4 East
15.) Florence (4-3) #4 West
16.) Cut Bank (3-5) #4 North

Co-Players of the Week (Week 8 ): Whitehall QB Max Feight - 365 total offensive yards (253 passing/112 rushing) with 4 passing touchdowns; Big Timber RB Casey Gunlikson - 100+ rushing yards, 5 total touchdowns (3 rushing/1 receiving/1 punt return)

Games of the Week (Week 9): Fairfield at Shelby (Winner gets the #1 seed in the Northern B while loser gets the #2); Baker at Colstrip (Colstrip controls their own destiny meaning if they win, they get the #1 seed in the Eastern B); Huntley Project at Roundup (Assuming Colstrip wins, this one is for 2nd/3rd in the Eastern B); Manhattan at Whitehall (Winner gets the #1 seed in the Southern B while loser gets the #2); Florence at Missoula Loyola AND Deer Lodge at Bigfork (Here are the scenarios for the #2-4 seeds in the Western B per Slim Kimmel: (1) If Missoula Loyola defeats Florence, Missoula Loyola clinches No. 2 seed, Bigfork No. 3 seed and Florence No. 4 seed... (2) If Florence defeats Missoula Loyola AND Bigfork defeats Deer Lodge, Bigfork clinches No. 2 seed, Florence No. 3 seed and Missoula Loyola No. 4 seed... (3) If Florence defeats Missoula Loyola AND Deer Lodge defeats Bigfork, Florence clinches No. 2 seed, Missoula Loyola No. 3 seed and Bigfork No. 4 seed.)

Class C (8-man)

Rankings based on where I predict each team will finish in their conference by the end of the season:

1.) Forsyth (8-0) #1 East
2.) Belt (8-0) #1 North
3.) Drummond/Philipsburg (8-0) #1 West
4.) Charlo (7-1) #2 West
5.) Ennis (7-1) #1 South
6.) Fairview (7-1) #2 East
7.) Joliet (7-1) #2 South
8.) Hobson/Moore/Judith Gap (7-1) #3 South
9.) Centerville (6-2) #2 North
10.) Great Falls Central (7-1) #3 North
11.) Circle (6-2) #3 East
12.) Arlee (6-2) #3 West
13.) Scobey (6-2) #4 East
14.) Choteau (6-2) #4 North
15.) Lone Peak (6-2) #4 South
16.) Plains (6-2) #4 West

In the hunt: Broadus (5-3)

Player of the Week (Week 8 ): Choteau QB Jonathan Moore - 266 total offensive yards (164 rushing/102 passing) for 6 total touchdowns (4 rushing/2 passsing); Fairview QB Carson Cayko - 254 rushing yards on 12 carries for 1 touchdown; Scobey RB Riley Linder - 6 total touchdowns (4 rushing/1 receiving/1 blocked punt)

Games of the Week (Week 9): Fairview at Scobey (A Fairview win guarantees them the #2 seed in the East but a loss could drop them to the #4 seed, assuming Circle wins. If Scobey wins AND Circle loses, Scobey gets the #2 seed but a win clinches them a playoff berth regardless.); Broadus at Circle (If Circle wins, they are in the playoffs and, depending on the outcome of Fairview/Scobey, could be the #2 or #3 seed in the East. If Broadus wins AND Scobey wins, Broadus will win the #4 seed. However, if Broadus wins AND Scobey loses, a tiebreaker scenario between Circle, Fairview, and Broadus for the last two spots would likely still favor Circle and Scobey getting in.); Plains at Arlee (Winner gets the #3 seed out of the West while the loser gets the #4.); Ennis at Lone Peak (Ennis clinches a Top 2 seed out of the South with a win while Lone Peak is playing for a higher seed as they already clinched a playoff berth); Joliet at Gardiner (Clinches #1 seed in the South with a win AND an Ennis loss. They earn a Top 3 seed with a win.); DGS at HMJG (Hobson/Moore/Judith Gap clinch the #1 seed out of the South with a win.)

Class C (6-man)

Rankings based on where I predict each team will finish in their conference by the end of the season:

1.) Westby/Grenora (8-0) #1 East
2.) Valier (7-0) #1 North
3.) Bridger (6-1) #1 South
4.) White Sulphur Springs (8-0) #1 West
5.) Wibaux (7-1) #2 East
6.) Richey/Lambert (6-2) #3 East
7.) Big Sandy (6-2) #2 North
8.) Geraldine/Highwood (5-2) #3 North
9.) West Yellowstone (7-1) #2 West
10.) Grass Range/Winnett (6-3) #2 South
11.) Jordan (5-3) #4 East
12.) Sunburst (4-3) #4 North
13.) Shields Valley (4-3) #3 South
14.) Noxon (4-4) #3 West
15.) Valley Christian (4-4) #4 West
16.) Reed Point/Rapelje (4-4) #4 South

In the hunt: Power/Dutton/Brady (5-2), Terry (5-3)

Co-Players of the Week (Week 8 ): White Sulphur Springs RB Isaac Collins - 6 touchdowns (5 rushing/1 interception return); Westby/Grenora QB Jeremiah Paine - 6 passing touchdowns

Games of the Week (Week 9): White Sulphur Springs at Valley Christian (WSS already has the #1 seed out of the West wrapped up but Valley Christian is playing for the #3 or #4 seed. If they win AND Noxon loses, they have the #3.); Noxon at Lincoln (Noxon clinches the #3 seed with a win OR a Valley Christian loss); North Star at Geraldine/Highwood (G/H already has a playoff berth wrapped up but they could finish anywhere between the #2-#4 seed. They clinch the #2 seed with a win AND a Big Sandy loss. If Big Sandy wins, they clinch the #3 seed with a win. If Geraldine/Highwood loses, they still clinch the #3 seed with a Power/Dutton/Brady loss due to head-to-head win over PDB.); Augusta at Big Sandy (If Big Sandy wins, they will be the #2 seed in the North and, regardless, they can finish no lower than #3.); Heart Butte at Sunburst (Sunburst needs a win AND a Power/Dutton/Brady loss to clinch the #4 seed in the North); Jordan at Westby/Grenora (Jordan is in the playoffs for the East but if they lose to W/G AND Terry defeats Richey/Lambert, there will be a three-way tiebreaker between Jordan, Terry, and R/L for the final two spots with Jordan getting one of them. The tiebreaker would be decided by how many points each team won or lost to each other.); Power/Dutton/Brady at Valier (Best-case scenario is P/D/B wins and they are in. Worst-case scenario is if they lose AND Sunburst wins which would eliminate them from contention. Depending on what happens in other games, P/D/B can finish as high as 2nd or as low as out of the playoffs.); Richey/Lambert at Terry (If R/L wins, they earn the #3 seed and eliminate Terry from the playoffs. If the lose AND W/G defeats Jordan, R/L's loss to Terry could only be by 3 points or less. Anything higher gives Terry the tie-breaker nod for the #4 seed in that scenario.)

Good for Browning. Finally a fairly good season.
Only one I noticed that had languished for a while.

Glendive hasn't been to the playoffs for 21 years. So there are two that have been longtime sufferers.
