I honestly didn't know. He doesn't talk about his past much, but I did find a press release about one of his coaching hires that states he played at Boise State.

Boise State was in the Big Sky Conference at one time. I don’t know the vintage on the gentleman you are talking about though….to know if they were still in the conference at the time he played there.

The Broncos won the conference 5 times from 1970 to 1980 and again in 1994. I can’t remember the 1994 team but I did watch them play Bobcats back in 70s. I remember one game in Bozeman we were driving inside the 10 yard line and had a chance to win but failed to score as time ran out on clock…TD would have won it.

Boise's last year in the Big Sky was 1995-96, and I'm pretty sure Berryhill would have played after that. CS-Northridge, Sac State and Portland State joined the league the following year, 1996-97. CS-Northridge was only in the BSC for five years, with their last year being 2000-2001. For some reason, I have it in my brain that he played for them, although I know he graduated from BSU. On a side note, I was at the game the one and only time MSU beat BSU in Boise, in 1993. In fact we spanked them 42-21. Boise was in the league for 26 years, from 1970-1996, so we must have played them 13 times in Boise, and that was our only win, although we had a pretty big edge in the games played in Bozeman. Back in the 70's and 80's, they were our biggest rival other than the gris.

Well he was a grad assistant at Boise in 1996 so he didn’t play later than that! Timing would coincide playing at Boise in the last few years they were in the conference. And yes they were a key rival..it was a big game when we played them….

Thanks for the info/correction. Obviously I was wrong about him playing for CS-Northridge. He might even have been on that BSU team in 1993, when we beat them in Boise. My ex-wife's cousin was the defensive coordinator back then at BSU, so I went to all the MSU/BSU games in Bozeman and Boise from 1993-1995. We got that win at Boise in 1993, but they spanked us pretty good in 1994 and 1995. In 1994 they made it all the way to the NC game, but lost to Youngstown State. I also went to the BSU-gris games in Missoula in 1993 and 1995. I believe the gris won both those games.
