Yearly Trip To The Grizzly Den
We're dragging the kids to Missoula for an extended weekend for some family stuff. I'll be making my yearly visit to WashGriz for the Sacto game.
The question is this. In the past, I've worn an MSU hoodie to the tailgates. Should I wear it this year after the UC Davis debacle? It's off in the stadium; I respect what the Griz have done there and don't need the attention. Besides, everyone by my Mom's seats knows which school my brother and I went to anyhow.
Also, so...is it true that there is no halftime tailgating anymore?

Just to clarify, what exactly would you be laughing at? A person loyally wearing the colors of his alma mater, even when their football team is doing poorly (and thus proving himself to be as far from being a bandwagon fan as is humanly possible)?Swilly3224 wrote:If I saw you, Id just laugh at the situation
That shouldn't evoke laughter as much as it should evoke admiration.
Cripes, I couldn't even bring myself to wear my MSU stuff around my wife and her friends this weekend after the game (most of whom are Davis and Cal alums), and I'm pretty sure I could take most of them. I wish I had the hardcore loyalty to even consider the question that PapaG asked.

Hey, we're Bobcats through and through. Wear your colors with pride, and brush off every stinging comment with nothing but a knowing sneer, secure in the fact that although your football team is playing poorly, you won't let it affect who you are as a person, whereby you only have the ability to bring yourself up by bringing someone else down.PapaG wrote:We're dragging the kids to Missoula for an extended weekend for some family stuff. I can't speak for you but I've sat on the other school's sideline twice and worn my MSU coat and cap both times. The first one at Marshall was a rather enjoyable experience and many of their fans expressed sincere appreciation for my showing up; the experience I had in Choo Choo when my head coaches son was quarterbacking Furman was also a rather enjoyable time except for a couple old grouches. In fact, that game was my youngest son's first collegiate game and he immediately struck up a conversation of sorts with T.J. Oelker's mother and the Salazy (?) crowd.
I did however give pause on the way back toward Dalton on I-75 when my young man in the backseat started yelling "Jesus Christ ref, get your head out of your ass!" as if it were a cheer
I think most of what is posted in a school site versus what you'll experience at the game will be good natured fun and there probably won't be any problems. Be proud of being a Bobcat or Bobcat fan. I think the Huge Human will identify the problem (or problems) on our team and take swift, decisive action and ya'll can tell any hecklers that.

I'm going to get a hard time regardless of if I wear the MSU hoodie. I may as well just go with it and take the abuse at the tailgate. I still won't wear it inside the stadium. Depending on weather, maybe it will resurface at the Stocks after the game. Or Reds. Whichever place we end up until dinner.Bay Area Cat wrote:Just to clarify, what exactly would you be laughing at? I was givn a ticket to go this weekend to the griz game. I'm sitting with a griz lawyer from billings and his sons...so my question was the same, do I wear the blue and gold, or go for a neutral color. I will not wear the griz colors, and I do not want to tick off the people I'm sitting with (they gave me the ticket).
I'm bigger than all of them, so its not like their going to give me much crap! Hey, I could just wear my blue coat and a yellow hat...nobody will suspect a thing.
I say that if you wear yours, I'll wear mine. Strength in #
Besides, think how good you'll feel after their PA announces MSU is winning. Ahhhhhh, it'll be a good time to be a BRAVE Bobcat.
Hope to see ya there!

I'll be milling about the GAA tailgate for a while, then imagine we'll be near an old looking RV that is painted in Griz colors. You can't miss it if you walk down RV row.liqud360 wrote:PapaG

Not specific to you, Papa, but I feel in general:
If a "Bobcat's" MSU pride hinges solely on the success of the football team, then they are no better than the myriad griz fans who have no affiliation with dUMb and simply root for the Griz because of their football success the past 15 years.
I am a PROUD 3rd generation MSU Alum; anytime I travel to Missoula, I display that pride.
Hope you choose wisely!

What was the average attendance 5-7 years ago at Bobcat Stadium?El_Gato wrote:

I'd say wear your bobcat stuff. No doubt you'll get some funny looks, and maybe a couple off color comments, but I really highly doubt you would get hassled at all.
As to there being a good percentage of Griz fans who didn't go to UM, I don't think there is a lot of proof of that. Surely there are fans who just like football, live football, and live closer to Missoula than Bozeman who want to watch a fairly high level of play, in a great atmosphere. I've had bobcat fan friends who come over, even from bozeman, just to take in a good game, good atmosphere, friends and fun. If that is a crime, so be it.
Plus, you certainly can't blame someone from out of state, or even from in state who support the team from the town they now live in. If I lived in Boise Id, you would find me at as many games as I could get to, and I would probably become a BSU fan. Though I'd never stop loving the Griz.

Speaking of bandwagon.....What was your attendance 5-7 years ago at Bobcat Stadium. Average 5,000? Now sell-outs? Lulay's gone, I see an overabundace of tickets available in the near future.

I have worn my Cat sweat shirts Sunday after both loses. If I take any sh!t around Missoula I point out to them that my education is not being used to help me count change for that meal I just ate.
You have "Man Law" and then you have "Montana State University Law" I will never be embarassed to wear my colors!!
