Ahhh, life in the Drop-down Division of college football. It's a necessary evil right now (so I hope MSU can work the system as well as anyone), but I really wish it would end across the board. Pretty soon, there won't even be a reason to recruit high schoolers -- entire teams will be patched together with free agent signings of drop-downs.

Hasn't PSU been close to that for a while now?

Rumor has it that the Guard that got into trouble with Bomar (Quinn), is going to the Grizzlies.

Nevermind, I found an article in the NY Times confirming it. That is a really good pickup for them in an area where they were weak--wow.

Ousted Oklahoma Quarterback Finds New School

Quarterback Rhett Bomar, who was dismissed from the Oklahoma football team for receiving extra compensation from jobs at a private business, is transferring to Sam Houston State University, an N.C.A.A. Division I-AA program in Huntsville, Tex.

Div. I-AA | Div. II | Div. IIIBomar, 21, a redshirt sophomore, enrolled this morning, said Paul Ridings, Sam Houston State’s assistant athletic director.

Sam Houston State, which has an enrollment of 15,300, is located 70 miles north of Houston and competes in the seven-team Southland Conference. Classes began Aug. 21.

Bomar did not answer a message left on his cellphone this morning. He was believed to also be considering Stephen F. Austin before choosing Sam Houston State.

Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops dismissed Bomar and offensive lineman J.D. Quinn, both starters, on Aug. 2.

The university’s investigation revealed that they knowingly broke N.C.A.A. rules by being paid for work not performed at Big Red Sports/Imports, a car dealership in Norman, Okla.

Both players were declared ineligible by Oklahoma. J.D. Quinn will attend Montana.

Sam Houston State will have to apply to the N.C.A.A. for Bomar to become eligible. That process would likely involve him repaying the money he improperly received from the dealership.

Last week, Bomar said he had yet to have any conversations with the N.C.A.A. about his eligibility. He could be suspended from games before being allowed to play at Sam Houston State. “You have to apply for reinstatement first and then you find something out some period after that,” he said in a telephone interview last week.

The nation’s top-rated quarterback recruit in 2004, Bomar started 11 games last season and set the single-season passing record for a freshman at Oklahoma with 2,018 yards.

He will join a Sam Houston State team that went 3-7 last season and finished second-to-last in the Southland with two conference victories. The Bearkats have four quarterbacks, including the Texas Tech transfer Phillip Daugherty, a junior, according to the team’s Web site.
