You pretty much nailed my first thought. That was such a strange sequence with the 3rd and 1 call and then the decision to punt on 4th and 3 with 2 minutes left.

Our defense is so good we caused the OC of the best offense in the country to "resign".

You pretty much nailed my first thought. That was such a strange sequence with the 3rd and 1 call and then the decision to punt on 4th and 3 with 2 minutes left.

The whole offense looked dejected in the second half. Even the EWU announcers commented on how they all sauntered off the field after a 3-and-out with their heads down. We all bore witness to an epic meltdown of a once great football team, and punting with 2 minutes left down 3 points was the straw that broke the camels back.

Yes that went from mantra to a reality last Saturday, although partial credit goes to Weber.

The EWU release says it is a "personnel issue", which would suggest something led to this that has nothing to do with football.

I add my thanks to Coach Best for deciding to give the ball back to MSU so that Ifanse could pad his stats a little and run out the clock at the end of the game.

A personal issue would mean it has nothing to do with football. A personnel issue would have everything to do with football. It might be a grammar issue but who knows when dealing with EWU.

Reading through all of Aaron Best’s comments on the Eagles web site, he was very, very hard on the offense and by implication the OC. There were a lot of jabs in there, like we have to take this and do something, not just learn about it. I suspect things were a little fraught after the Weber game. After their offense got stopped with only 20 points, things could have really exploded behind closed doors. Yelling and screaming back can be cited as “insubordination” which is a personnel issue. The term “I just don’t need to put up with this anymore” comes to mind with a resignation — or perhaps getting paid to the end of the contract term as opposed to being fired and losing the pay. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out going forward to UC Davis and beyond.

Oh boy. 2025 might be brutal. We also play at UM. Not sure about the other conference games but that's going to be a challenging season.

I have a feeling this is something bad and EWU is going to keep it under wraps. Just a bad feeling.

Unless they butted heads so bad that Best told Shoemaker I’m calling the plays for the rest of the season, Shoemaker didn’t agree and that’s that. Seems odd to do it this close to the playoffs.

They should really look at their defensive coordinator as well as special teams coaches too.......Hell let them all go!
