Houston QB, WR redshirting as seniors

A couple of senior starters at the University of Houston are shutting it down for the rest of the season to preserve their redshirts. D'Eriq King (QB) was a Heisman candidate last year but got hurt toward the end of the season. One of their top WR's, Keith Corbin, is also sitting the rest of the season.

I'm guessing this is a move to let them play for a better team next year? Feels like a pro team tanking so they can be better in the future. Head Coach Dana Holgerson seems to be on board with it.

What do you think the NCAA thinks about this manipulation of the rules? Think they'll make any changes to that rule?

How pissed would you be as a donor or sponsor or season ticket holder knowing your team is writing off the season? Think anybody will want their money back?

This seems like a bit of a nightmare.

It is interesting. Houston is 1-3 with two respectable losses to top 20 teams. They have zero shot to win a national title this year and a G5 must go undefeated. If I was an alum, I get to keep my starter and potential heisman candidate for another year to pursue a dream season, I might be okay with that. The best they can do this year is win an AAC title and go to a no name bowl game. If these guys had a playoff system, I might be looking at it completely different.
