Re: FCS Semifinal weekend
I love what Choate is doing and I think he'll have us back in the playoffs next year. But I don't think the Cats will truly compete for the title year in and year out until we can offer FCOA like the MVFC does.

Is this a conference to conference thing? How would it be set up?

I don't buy that we can't expect to become a legit NC contender without offering FCOA. I have to believe that many of the top FCS programs aren't yet on board with that.91catAlum wrote:I think it's per school. There's no denying that it affects recruiting. It's certainly making a difference for UND and the rest of the Dakota schools. It's just one more way they stay ahead of the rest of us.John K wrote:I don't buy that we can't expect to become a legit NC contender without offering FCOA. The flip side is if you're an FCS school and recruit some duds or have a coaching change and switch playing styles, you're stuck with those players at least financially, and lack the huge scholarship budgets to absorb the costs.91catAlum wrote:There's no denying that it affects recruiting. Re: FCS Semifinal weekend
Do we even compete much against the Dakota schools in recruiting head to head? It seems like our recruiting footprint doesn't really overlap much with theirs. And what about the other top FCS programs and conferences? Do they offer FCOA? I'm not saying that it's not an advantage, but I don't necessarily think it's an absolute prerequisite for building a legit NC contender.91catAlum wrote:There's no denying that it affects recruiting. I tried googling but it's difficult to figure out which schools offer FCOA.John K wrote:Do we even compete much against the Dakota schools in recruiting head to head? Only if offering multi-year scholarships. If scholarships, like other merit aid, are offered on a year-to-year basis, the duds could be cut loose.PapaG wrote:The flip side is if you're an FCS school and recruit some duds or have a coaching change and switch playing styles, you're stuck with those players at least financially, and lack the huge scholarship budgets to absorb the costs.91catAlum wrote:There's no denying that it affects recruiting. Re: FCS Semifinal weekend
South Dakota State has turned the ball over twice already, on their first 2 possessions. JMU cashed one in.
7-0 JMU
7-0 JMU

Oh my! Make that FOUR turnovers in 4 possessions by sdsu! Still first quarter!
Unreal. But still just 7-0

Sdsu gets a fumble back from JMU, and then throws an INT on the next play!
FIVE turnovers now for sdsu.
Still first quarter.

I suppose we have to drink Bud again this weekend!?!?91catAlum wrote:Sdsu gets a fumble back from JMU, and then throws an INT on the next play!

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

Re: FCS Semifinal weekend
First sdsu possession that doesn't end in a turnover, and they score a TD.
7-7
JMU defensive line is very good - and sdsu is blowing them off the ball on most run plays. Pretty impressive start for their O line.

SDSU moves the ball pretty well when they hang on to it.

Yes they do! Watch their O line next drive. They are having their way with a very good defense front.catscat wrote:SDSU moves the ball pretty well when they hang on to it.

Re: FCS Semifinal weekend
Guess JMU's offense decided they'll have to play since SDSU quit giving them the ball back.
