I see why he was a 4-star recruit out of HS, and signed with Florida

How the hell did he end up in missoula?

Signed his LOI with Florida, ended up at Marshall.
2011: RS frosh at Marshall - 551 yards on 143 carries for three touchdowns.
2012: Marshall moved him to CB 3 games into the season. Travon wanted to play RB.
2013: Travon's brother told him to contact Justin Green - Van's brother knew of Green from their HS playing days in San Diego. Travon called Green, they clicked, and here he is.

An unbelievable pickup by the coaching staff.

He reminds me a lot of Taiwan Jones with a better spin move and not quite the top end speed. You definitely don't want him getting into the open field. However, it seemed weird to me he would tap his head (put hand up) after 2 runs to take him out. I saw that on 2-3 separate occasions. We will see how he likes cold helmets hitting him in the later fall :)

He averaged less than 4.0 a carry at Marshall. ASU's defense sucks. :coffee:

He sprained his knee in fall camp, so that may be why he kept tapping out.

agreed - he brings another dimension for your team

thanks for the background

foolish IMHO of schools to let go of great athletes b/c of position needs, but good for UM

what is with UM guys named Justin that makes them great recruiters??? if it weren't for Justin Gaines, from what we've heard, we would not have a kid called DeNarius, among others

I thought the same thing, but was afraid to say it. That deadleg move is killer.

It will be interesting to see how he holds up as the season continues and the weather gets colder. He has had issues with injuries. Is one hell of a talented RB though and seems like a good dude.

Aside from his knee in camp what other injuries has he had?

If I remember correctly he had hip surgery while at Marshall. That may have been the other RB that left Marshall at the same time, though.

*edit: Van had two surgeries while at Marshall. One was his hip. Not sure of second one.

I'll say it again, if he "dances and runs standing up" he won't last the entire season! Any RB's out there?

Agreed. The first time he plants hard and gets hit at the same time his Billy Sims knee will blow.

He was impressive in the App State game, no doubt.

He looks a little thin to run up the middle but maybe it's the all maroon being so slimming.

In this highlight run he doesn't look any quicker or faster to me than Peter Nguyen. Last season the griz were blessed with two of the finest running backs in the league. Unfortunately, one got hurt.

He definitely accelerates faster than Nguyen, and is better in the open field, IMO.

He actually makes Barry Simms look like an offensive lineman. With him and JJ in that backfield, the gritz will never have to punt or kick a field goal.

Do you really think Trayvon Van will blow his knee? You're making him sound injury prone and I see Griz fans are attributing your comments to Cat fans. Real classy dude.
