How soon before we see a "and now let's go ahead and throw football in there as well" press release.

I wonder how many of the remaining 5 scheduled games are with Big Sky teams? I bet at least 3 of them.

If I remember correctly, to satisfy NCAA FBS regulations (which they claim it will be doing) only one of the 5 home games can be against non-FBS competition.Rich K wrote:I wonder how many of the remaining 5 scheduled games are with Big Sky teams? I bet at least 3 of them.

It's official: http://www.bigskyconf.com/news/2012/10/ ... 20821.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
My guess is football won't move until at least 2015. It looks like they've cobbled together enough FBS games for the next two seasons...maybe.
This is a huge shot in the arm to the Big Sky's other sports, especially basketball. Idaho was a league powerhouse most years and I believe they will be up there again with the griz and Weber at the top of the league.

Re: Idaho to the Big Sky in 2014 (except football)
There has been a lot of excitement about Idaho joining the Big Sky but what about getting New Mexico St. also? I know it would make for odd numbers again. It would however leave just two western states that the big sky doesn't have schools in. More importantly it would make dropping down easier to swallow for both schools. I don't see any FBS conference picking up nmsu. Thoughts?

Nah. We don't want NMSU. Mediocre school in the middle of nowhere. All they bring to the table is a travel partner for NAU, and it Is still 475 miles away.
They belong in the Sun Belt

I think NMSU ultimately ends up in the Mountain West Conference. I think the problem with them was their president-who was recently run out of town.
I think at this point the Big Sky is full.

Idaho: We have learned that Robb Akey's contract is being terminated. Expect an announcement from the university shortly.

I hear Kramer might be looking for a job after this year.MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho football coach Robb Akey was relieved of his duties Sunday, Director of Athletics Rob Spear announced.
“The President (Duane Nellis) and I believe it is important to make this move now so we can immediately begin the process of hiring a new coach for the 2013 season,” Spear said Sunday. “We appreciate Coach Akey’s enthusiasm and dedication to the University of Idaho but this is the right move at this time.”
The Vandals are off to a 1-7 start this season and are coming off a 70-28 loss at Louisiana Tech. Akey, hired in 2007, has a win/loss record of 20-50 as head coach of the Vandals.
Spear said a search for Akey’s replacement will begin immediately. In the interim, offensive coordinator Jason Gesser will serve as the Vandals head coach. Gesser has been on the Vandal staff for two seasons after a professional NFL and Canadian Football League career. He is a graduate of Washington State University where he was an All-American quarterback.
Akey’s contract, which expires in December 2014, has a base salary of $165,796.

I was thinking Robin Pflugrad.
I think most coaches are locating their 10 foot poles with which they won't touch that job. Akey was in an impossible situation. With no conference what is the new guy going to use to entice recruits? They're going to look back on the Akey years with a warm feeling-and remember the good 'ol days when they won 1 or 2 games a season.
