Just saw this on the Sports Network. Seems like pretty harsh penalties. I found it interesting that they say Southern has been on probation and or had violations for 16 out of the last 20 years. Talk about an athletic program that has no control what so ever

Re: Big NCAA punishments for TX Southern
I'm beginning to think that almost any NCAA program could be nailed with major violations. It's just take egregious behavior (i.e. UM football) or a new twist on recruiting (i.e. Oregon) to attract the NCAA's attention. Once that happens, it's a crapshoot, and you had better get yourself expert representation.
Oregon did that before the NCAA even announced their investigation, and reports are that they are now working closely with the NCAA to define how to use recruiting services. Oregon does not use any recruiting services anymore, fwiw.
UM waited for months after the NCAA started their investigation to finally hire counsel. In the meantime, they fired their AD and head coach for football, after both had been initially contacted by the NCAA.
