Bowl games

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Tue Dec 30, 2025 4:24 pm

Having some extra time on my hands in between the holidays, I find myself half watching some of these bowl games, which almost always feature former FCS teams with .500 records playing in some empty stadium. The games are uniformly terrible. Lots of keystone cops type plays. Teams are missing their best players, fans that are there barely care. Yet it's the only thing on so I'm watching. Right now La Tech is making a spirited comeback on Coastal Carolina in the "? some sort of sponsor" Independence Bowl.

Yesterday was Georgia Southern (6-6) against Appalachian State (5-7) in the empty Birmingham Bowl. App State got to go because there were no 6-6 teams left.

The bowl system is a dinosaur that won't die.

Looking forward to the FBS Playoffs starting up again tomorrow night.

Now I see we got Tennessee playing Illinois in Nashville in the Music City Bowl. The State of Illinois is well represented in Nashville for a few days. Wonder if any Illinois fans know about Illinois State...

Yes some do. As I mentioned in another thread I’ve been in Nashville since Sunday surrounded by Illinois sweatshirts, hats, jackets and tee shirts. I’ve good naturedly asked a few and my “official non-statistical sampling” says about a quarter are. Typical responses are not unlike in Montana…”oh yeah they play on Monday right?” or more familiar “yeah my brother/niece etc went to ISU and they are excited….don't know if they are coming to game though”. I don’t get the felling any are going to stick around and put a red shirt on for the Monday game though!!!

Been here since Monday and having great time. Met a guy who is a professor at UM who is truly rooting for the Cats. Met an Illini fan who got his phd at MSU in the late 70s. Met a guy who lives in Nashville and has coworker that is a Griz fan. Said his coworker was real bummed about the loss, we had a good laugh about that. We’ve gotten a free drink at 3 bars for wearing our Cat gear which is a good thing because drink prices give me sticker shock.

If you're looking for someone with a little authority, I'm your man. I have as little as anyone!

@Joe Bobcat , not quite like those up in North Central MT, eh? Thanks again for the SRO tickets to the semifinals, we had a blast because of your generosity. Cheer loud in our absence!

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Crazy FBS quarterfinals. Ohio State loses to Miami, Texas Tech and Alabama score 3 points between them. Indiana is pretty darn good. Interesting that IU plays Oregon in Atlanta-might be a few tickets available for that one. This Ole Miss vs Georgia game has been pretty good so far.

Getting excited for the Rice/Texas State game. Could be momentous.
