Re: Non Bobcat Portal news
Saw a Facebook post for the Gris, looks like they picked up a transfer DL from Central Washington. Saw it on my phone, tried to find it on my tablet, no luck…

They're hammering the portal... for NAIA and D2 players, lol. Probably not exactly what that fan base had in mind. I will say though, the Peck get was a really good get for this season.

I think it can work, but you need homegrown talent on the OL and iDL. That’s where things go awry for them.

NAIA and D2 all Americans are probably a safer bet to be good players than some FBS drop downs that have not seen the field much. More film for sure. I think they will pursue them and FCS players that want to win and maybe a little more money but aren't FBS guys.

We have multiple guys on the roster getting left FBS interest and the Gris are focused on D2 and NAIA guys. Even other FCS players that aren’t getting FBS interest. Does not seem like a smart strategy.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 28, 2025 8:45 pmNAIA and D2 all Americans are probably a safer bet to be good players than some FBS drop downs that have not seen the field much. we get under recruited guys who develop to be FBS caliber. Why can't NAIA or D2 develop to be good FCS players.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 28, 2025 11:18 pmWe have multiple guys on the roster getting left FBS interest and the Gris are focused on D2 and NAIA guys. Another reason is the want the proven NAIA and D2 because the would have 2 or 3 years to play as opposed to 1 and done.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 9:01 amwe get under recruited guys who develop to be FBS caliber. I am guessing you are just looking for something to debate, but this seems like an odd topic. There are definitely some diamonds in the NAIA and D2, but MSU already has FBS caliber guys on the roster. This is an indication of how far the programs are apart. I am not sure focusing on D2 and NAIA recruits is the best way to catch up to MSU.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 9:01 amwe get under recruited guys who develop to be FBS caliber. No debate just difference of opinion. If all they sign is NAIA and D2 I think it's an issue. If they are picking up 2 or 3 All Americans from those levels along with FCS and FBS transfers not sure why that is bad. And I am not saying MSU or UM don't have FBS level talent. Bit there is a chance that talent leaves and you have to replace it. Would Cats have taken Danny Woodhead if he portal system was in place at that time.Cataholic wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 10:47 amI am guessing you are just looking for something to debate, but this seems like an odd topic. I guess my point is if Cats have kids here 2 years that are now FBS level why can't a kid at NAIA or D2 have developed to a decent FCS level?

I think most of it is just the desire to laugh at the Griz. Overall, I think you're right that it can definitely work to bring up the best of the best from the NAIA or D-II levels.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 29, 2025 11:27 amNo debate just difference of opinion. To me, the bigger issue is that they keep using the portal to out-recruit their Montana kids.
Clay Oven was a RS Soph in 2025. It was time to let him play full-time. But instead, they brought in four linebackers from the portal and he was a part-time player.
Coming back at safety, they have Kade Cutler and Kade Boyd, plus Kash Goicoechea will be a RS Soph, but they've already brought in a portal guy in Braeden Orlandi from Carroll.
At defensive end, they have Isaac Keim who will also be a RS Soph, but they've already brought in a portal guy in Tyler King from Central Washington.
They don't give their MT players a clean runway, which makes it less desirable for the top in-state players to go there.

Not been a good day for the Bison. Had a couple starting secondary players go in the portal, their best DE, and now an offensive linemen.

More in the portal this year than in the last several combined. Especially more starters.... FCS championship fatigue?Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 5:38 pm

Or the opposite. Maybe easier to keep when winning. Pretty crazy he had 75 new faces to work with at WSU, and actually didn't do too shabby with that, considering it's WSU. I thought Bobby having over fifty new faces was a lot. Wow.imacat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 30, 2025 8:27 pmJimmy Rogers is going to inherit a virtually bare cupboard.
