What makes a good coach?

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sat Mar 25, 2006 8:27 pm

I'm watching UCLA right now-led by former NAU boss Ben Howland. I just have the feeling it wouldn't matter who Howland is coaching-in a reasonably short amount of time he'd have them playing at the top of their level-whether it be Praire View A&M or UCLA. The guy can flat coach.

Other guys that would be successful anywhere:

Former Weber guy Ron Abegglin (his personal life may have been a train wreck but he sure got it done coaching Weber).

Blaine Taylor-He wins 20+ games every year no matter where he's at. Another guy who had some personal problems sidetrack his career for a while, but he's got it going at Old Dominion and will probably be able to name his price very soon.

There's something about these guys that just makes them good coaches. Hopefully the new guy we hire-whomever that is-has some of the same positive traits.
