Do you think that not implementing tight ends and full backs hurts their red zone chances?Sportin' Life wrote:It was a good game. Even though the Griz lost, I have to say watching the triple option is a guilty pleasure for me. I thought the Griz D played over all well enough to win, and especially made some big plays in the second half. On the other hand the Poly QB didn't seem to want to pitch very much. That was understandable later in the game when it was raining, but early on I was a bit puzzled. I thought stretching the defense a few times might have really got things going for them. The fullback dive was working pretty well for them though, so who am I to argue.
The Griz offense showed the downside of that sort of scheme. The Griz were lousy in the red zone last year, and they might end up being worse this year. Hopefully they figure out a few good scoring plays that work a bit more consistently. I would be happier with a power football type of offense, but I can see a few glimmers of why Stitt likes this offense.
Hats off to Poly; I didn't give them much of a chance with getting the ball with little time and no timeouts in the rain being an option team, but they did what they needed to do.

Re: Griz versus Cal Poly
Of course I think it is easier to run out of power formations with a big running back and an bigger fullback, but that just isn't who the Griz are going to be. So Stitt needs to figure out some plays that will work for touchdowns in the red zone, because right now it really isn't working. The fact is, if the offense is running 92 plays in a game, but only scoring 17 points, so there is a pretty serious problem with finishing the drives. Clearly the Griz had the ball enough to score a lot more. It might be that the Griz just need to develop more big play capabilities and not focus on the red zone, rather than just dink and dunk down the field to a place where they are almost completely feckless.WeedKillinCat wrote:Do you think that not implementing tight ends and full backs hurts their red zone chances?Sportin' Life wrote:It was a good game. Re: Griz versus Cal Poly
After watching these last 2 games, its getting so that I really like it when they get a big play but get tackled inside the 10, because they cant seem to get it in the endzone from inside the 10.Sportin' Life wrote:Of course I think it is easier to run out of power formations with a big running back and an bigger fullback, but that just isn't who the Griz are going to be. they didn't. but it's not innovative because they didn't go for it on 4th 5 times and get a first down each time. THAT is innovative....cats2506 wrote:Did Poly ever huddle, so innovativePapaG wrote:But but but when was the last time you saw a team go 4-6 on 4th down in a game?! they were 4/6 on 4th down and didn't ever huddle, I thought that was the threshold for being innovativeilovethecats wrote:they didn't. but it's not innovative because they didn't go for it on 4th 5 times and get a first down each time. Re: Griz versus Cal Poly
4 for 6 on 4th down and no huddle was indeed the innovation threshold last week! Personally, I believe CP exceeded the threshold because fewer of their 4th down conersions were of the last drive, you have to go or lose variety.
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do, but 48-23 may be the best of all.
