FCS wins against FBS: Who Sets the Record?

Post by Rich K » Thu Sep 19, 2013 1:17 pm

The Sports Network is reporting that there has been 13 FCS victories over FBS teams this year, matching the previous record set in 2000

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnf ... id=4625984" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This Saturday 13 FCS v. FBS games will be played.

(8)Eastern Illinois v. Northern Illinois
(19)Bethune-Cookman v. Florida State
Florida A&M at Ohio State
Jacksonville State at Georgia State
Austin Peay at Ohio
Northwestern State at UAB
Idaho State at Washington
Murray State at Bowling Green
(6) South Dakota State at Nebraska
VMI at Virginia
Savannah State at Miami (Fla.)
Morgan State at Western Kentucky
Western Illinois at UNLV.

Looking through the list, it's not looking good for the FCS. It looks to me that there will be a lot of very one sided games... wait a minute, Western Illinois could break the record at UNLV! Now wouldn't that be a shame! :-^

The Western Illinois game has the best shot. The Eastern Illinois could happen but not as likely imo.

How many passes will Idaho State quarterbacks throw on saturday? I say the over/under is 50 passes.

I will do the math for my prediction. UW scores 10 TD's. That's 10 kick offs, plus 1 kick off to start one of the halves. So that is a total of 11 possessions. They will actually complete some of those passes so I'll say 2 extra plays per series. 5 x 11 = 55. That's my guess, 55 pass attempts.

How can you predict how many possessions a team is going to have without knowing how long scoring drives are? What if all 10 scoring drives took 8 mins apiece?

Then Kramer gets a moral victory.

Those sort of things only happen in Arizona. Eighty minutes of posession time is quite an accomplishment.

I'll take the under. They won't keep the ball long enough.

Yes but how many plays will feature multiple passes! Isn't Bailey the O coordinator?

Jacksonville State beats Georgia State
WIU beats UNLV
EIU beats NIU.

The second and third are jus thopefuls, but Georgia State is just flat awful. The players have given up and they'll be lucky to draw 5,000 fans. 5,000...in the freakin' Georgia Dome! Ugh.

Idaho State at Washington, Saturday, 3:05
Remember what we were saying about Idaho State starting off 2-0? A 3-0 start might be out of the question as Washington appears to have its football mojo back following a few years in the Pac-12 Conference wilderness. Washington beat Boise State 38-6 in its first game in the new Husky Stadium. Washington’s offense exploded for 615 yards total offense in a 34-24 win over Illinois, and that offense is going up against the Big Sky’s leading defense. Although QB Justin Anas has 453 passing yards a game, Idaho State’s offense should be silenced a bit. But this could be a close game.
Projected Score: Washington 34, Idaho State 24

Somewhere on a thread around here I predicted that Idaho State was going to be the sleeper this year. This will not be where that shows up. The guy who wrote this must be sleep deprived. I love how he gave Idaho State credit for leading the Big Sky in defense. Washington 60 Idaho State 7.

So did the record get broken last Saturday? Did any FCS teams pull off upsets? I know a few of them got crushed.

Jacksonville State beat Georgia State so that counts-though Georgia State is a new FBS program and really terrible.

Well, I guess 1/3 ain't bad. Damn directionals killed me. I'm shocked that BH and his boys handled WIU the way they did and EIU's performance, although they kept it within a touchdown, was really disappointing. I repeat, Georgia State is absolutely terrible. They may lose by 100 this week (playing 'Bama). If they played Idaho, the world would cease to exist because there should never be that much awful in the same place at the same time...
