UM Scheduling
I may have missed this elsewhere, but what is going on with the Grizzlies' schedule? Is it the AD's fault? Or is it not as bad as I think it is?
The week 2 bye seems incredibly bad, and the players and coaches have said the same thing, in a nice way.
And this is the second-straight year going to UND. Did I hear they were going back there again next year? What's the story there?
I know there was obviously a lot of transition in Athletics Administration, but geez, this seems like they weren't even trying. Or did I miss something?

Re: UM Scheduling
The conference dictated the game at UND last year and the one at UND next year. This year's game is a payback for a when UND came to Missoula about 7 yrs ago.
At least that is what I was told.
I was listening to Mick on the Grizzly coaches show last week when he was asked about the week 2 bye. He tried really, really hard to spin it into a positive but you could tell he hates it.

Re: UM Scheduling
The early bye is there so that CAT/griz can remain the last game of the year. It has been explained many times over the years that in order to keep CAT/griz as the last game there has to be a little bit of manuevering when scheduling the bye and the rotation of big sky conference games. This is why for several years both we and the griz had bye's the week before CAT/griz.

Re: UM Scheduling
I am pretty sure that the reason for their week 2 bye comes down to no more than scheduling. They play South Dakota in November - if they could have scheduled that game for last week and taken the bye in November, one assumes they'd have jumped all over that option!kcatz wrote:The early bye is there so that CAT/griz can remain the last game of the year. Well, we probably couldn't have, given USD was playing @ Kansas last week.MSU01 wrote:I am pretty sure that the reason for their week 2 bye comes down to no more than scheduling. I didn't know that about UND. That's just a bad break, sounds like.LTown Cat wrote:The conference dictated the game at UND last year and the one at UND next year. This year's game is a payback for a when UND came to Missoula about 7 yrs ago.

But a bye in week 2, that's tough. At least their first game was the App St game and not the OK Panhandle or whatever it is. It would suck to play your step-down game then have a week off.

The UND game is other half of the home and home they played in 2010, not quite 7 yearsLTown Cat wrote:The conference dictated the game at UND last year and the one at UND next year. This year's game is a payback for a when UND came to Missoula about 7 yrs ago.
