MSU in a positive light

Post by old wise one » Sat Dec 16, 2006 9:49 am

With all of the recent events, and the negativity that has been cast upon MSU Athletics. I think it is time to remember there are still great things being done by MSU athletes and the athletic department. Unfortunately, the news papers and local tv stations only want to report the negative. So it is up to Bobcat Nation to help spread the word.

Did you know, just in the last week?
Just in the last week, MSU students athletes raised over $1,600 for the Toys for Tots program. I know a press release was sent to major media outlets in the region, but do you think they bothered to do a story? No.

The MSU athletics department has sponsored a family for Christmas, through the Heart and Homes program. The have donated over $900 worth of toys and gifts to a very needy Gallatin Valley family. Again, where are you KTVM, Bozeman Daily Chronicle, Billings Gazzette, KXLF? You seem to lurk like roaches to find a negative story, yet when you are gift wrapped a positive, you don't even mention it.

How about all of the wonderful student athletes that have graced our campus over the years? Many of whom, are a great influence on future generations, and role models in the Gallatin Valley still today. Travis Lulay, Kane Ione, John Taylor, Doug Kimball, Leon Potkay, Jerry Reisig, Brad Daws, Sonny Holland, Clete Linebarger, Brooke Svendsen. And these are just a few off the top of my head. There are hundreds more, not too mention all of the great student athletes that have left town after graduation.

My point? There is way more positive than negative (in and because of) MSU athletics. People should remember that when we are hit with these situations(yes they are grave and devestating) but few and far between.

I know MSU sports info reads and sometimes posts info to this board. We need to help out. If MSU sports could post a positive press release on this board weekly or bi-mopnthly, we could, as a nation, help spread the positive word. After all, MSU athletics is not getting that support from other media outlets, so it's time for the Nation to get involved and help out.

I know MSU sports info doesn't want to be a part of discussions, and banter back and forth on this board, but I think my request fits within your purpose of signing on.

Thanks for that post, oldwiseone. Too many times do we here about the negatives in our society and not enough about the positives. Dirty laundry sells newspapers, dives the media, and it's a sad commentary about the society we live in. A big round of applause and THANK-YOU to the student-athletes at MSU who strive everyday to better themselves, their team, their school, and their community!
