No TV Coverage

Post by rtb » Tue Nov 21, 2006 11:27 am

I was informed by MaxMedia that they won't be covering the game. I don't know if someone else will, but I highly doubt it. So if you were planning on watching from home, call the ticket office and get to Bozeman this Saturday!

As mentioned in the other thread, a furman fan reported on their board that they received an email from Linda Gray of Max Media saying they were in talks to have a station in Greenville rebroadcast the game there in essence implying that Max Media was broadcasting it. I wonder what could have changed so drastically?

As I also said in the other thread, this will really suck if this is not broadcast!

We've been emailing the contact at the Greenville station this morning...no doubt clogging up the INBOX. We've got our fingers crossed.

The email I received was from Linda Gray and said "I have just found out that unfortunately we won't be covering the playoff game this weekend" Let's hope that Altitude is picking it up.

EDIT: not Linda Gray, Linda Julius.

Well Max Media confirmed they are not covering the game and we will have to contact MSU to find out if they are it lined up with someone else. Since I believe we are currently in the "quiet period" of promoting the game we probably won't hear anything for a while.

Seriously where is MSU on this? We have one of the best opportunities to promote Bobcat Athletics ever and there is little or no hype.

It seems to me that in the past when the griz have hosted home games, that there was uncertainty about the game being broadcast until late in the week. I always figured they wanted to sell tickets and then once they had sold the tickets they needed to they "all of a sudden" found someone to carry the game.

Could it be possible that until a threshold of tickets are sold, tv lineup is not confirmed?

Yeah, that could be what they are doing, going with the Blackout Rules until we sell enough tickets to make sure we cover our costs. That could be why we are getting conflicting stories from Furman! Heres to selling enough tickets!!

I guess if there is no Max Media/Altitude coverage of the game, then there will be no TV cameras. If there are no TV cameras, then it probably won't/can't be covered on Big Sky TV either.

That leaves only one choice:
Call in sick, sell the house, load up the family truckster, and get to the game.

Good point ... this lack of information could be somewhat clever marketing for game tickets. And really, if people can make it to the game, they should be there. Watching on TV isn't even comparable. Take it from someone who doesn't have the option of being there in person.

That is my hope. Everything is set to go if X number of tickets are sold. When that magic number is hit, then the game can be on TV. So Furman if you want to see the game, buy a couple thousand tickets..how's that for a plan! ;)

It doesn't look like Altitude would have it, because they have their usual Big East game on anyways.

Maybe TSTN, the channel that showed H.S. and Carroll games this year?

Aren't they carrying the Carroll game?

Doesn't look like it. Nothing on their website, newspapers, or the channel itself.

Well, if for some reason they end up carrying the game, it won't look very good but at least it would be on tv.

I would think that if no one is covering the game, then there won't be any TV cameras there. No cameras means no Big Sky TV coverage either.

This is exactly the reason games "couldn't be televised" until the day before kickoff in Missoula. They even stated as such when they admitted that the game would be televised in Billings, Great Falls, etc. but not Missoula.

It works pretty well actually. Sell it out or get close and you'll probably get it televised as well.

For people within a relatively short driving distance from Bozeman (which, in Montana terms, is a couple hundred miles), it isn't a big deal ... they can just go to the game and experience it live (which is the best way to do it).

The only people who really get slighted when something like this happens are those people who are too far away to make it to a game like this on one week's notice.
