Defense Wins Games
Ok so is anyone else out there impressed with the way the D played today. We held them to 132 yds total offense...we had that much in rushing in the horrible weather...WOO WOO!!!

Re: Defense Wins Games
The defense is starting to smell some success as a team unit and that is only going to mean blood in the water now that they are getting the discipline to play their assignments. We are starting to emerge as the team we can be and it starts with the defense shutting down the other teams weapons. You saw today what happens when we do.torrybruce wrote:Ok so is anyone else out there impressed with the way the D played today. PSU's defense is probably the best we will face all season, and our running game moved just fine on them. Our passing game didn't work as well as I'da liked, but credit PSU for that.

Our offense gave PSU a few short fields and still pitched a shutout.
Bailey did exactly what was required to win.
Great job by the entire coaching staff today!!

No Jr. here GOKATS. Never been a fan of Bailey. I think that the CATS are so predictable that it will bite them in the butt.GOKATS wrote:G.W. Jr.??94VegasCat wrote:It's a darn good thing that are defense is outstanding as it is becuase with Bailey at the helm, we won't do much.

I will say that I did get frustrated that a few times we ran the ball for the first two plays of the down to get to 3rd and 2-3yds (THANKS MASON) then we would go and throw a little flare pass or something that was read perfectly. Not sure what to think about that one.94VegasCat wrote:No Jr. here GOKATS. Never been a fan of Bailey. I think that the CATS are so predictable that it will bite them in the butt.GOKATS wrote:G.W. Exactly what NAU and PSU thought.94VegasCat wrote:No Jr. here GOKATS. Never been a fan of Bailey. I think that the CATS are so predictable that it will bite them in the butt.GOKATS wrote:G.W. GOKATS, I don't want to sit and argue with you. The CATS did enough to win today. Our last two wins have been big. We did not out-coach anybody offensively though. If we get ourselves into a real jam, where we can't move the ball at all, what will Bailey do? Throw to the sidelines, a short dump pass to the RB, stretch to the right, and any other idiotic lack of imagination play that is in his playbook?GOKATS wrote:Exactly what NAU and PSU thought.94VegasCat wrote:No Jr. here GOKATS. I'm not out to argue either, but there were numerous times early where we had receivers wide open downfield that Cory simply didn't pick up on. 'Cats could easily have put up an additional TD or two before halftime. Can't blame it on the OC- Cory was just not up to snuff today.
Second half was great ball control football- as long as Mason kept the ball moving (eating the clock), why screw with what's working? JMHO

Defensive thoughts from today's game:
1)Having Force back was huge - I had never really paid attention to him before the play previous to his injury. Then when he was hurt I heard how much this affected our defense as he's our defensive "QB". Today, almost every single play he was yelling out instruction and getting guys in the righ position and right coverage......oh, and those bone jarring hits he had
2)Love seeing the aggressive nature of our D the last two weeks. We are regularly sending at least two extra people on blitz packages and it has been paying dividends.
3) We won the war of the trenches here. I really think our substitution package we employ helps keep our lineman fresh the entire game (so great to have that kind of depth).
4) I saw some good play out of our secondary today. At least one sack was due to great coverage downfield. Cory and Andre both had great plays to break up passes.
I absolutely loved the intensity of the hitting we were doing out there today. There was several times where the impact sent a resounding crack up into the stands.
They never got inside the 32....that's awesome!!!!!!
They hung a doughnut

I agree the defense was awesome today. However. credit for that defensive effort must go to Bailey and the offense. They kept the defense off the field for over 33 minutes with 17 first downs, etc. The transition form Carpenter to Rolovich was pretty smooth. I think it was just another great team win.barechestcat wrote:Defensive thoughts from today's game:
