Let's have some fun part II

Post by Platinumcat » Tue Oct 03, 2006 9:08 pm

Last week I felt we needed this just to get away from the negativity that was enthralling the board. This week I say we do it again for no other reason then I'm superstitious. So,

1) Who has the big game on offense this week?
-I think Jefferson will play well this week (he's just balls out on every play IMO). But, I think that PSU will double team him a lot and that opens it up for Elliott Barnhart to have a huge day of receiving. I also think Elliott has a huge day because of PSU's aggressiveness on D.

2) Who has the big game on defense this week?
-In spirit of how Epi came out like a wild man last week, I say Ryan Force has the big day. I'm calling for one earth shattering shot to some poor sap who goes up high for an overthrown ball from White, one int on an overthrown ball, and a fumble recovery when Daly lays somebody out.

3) What kind of game will Cory have?
- Cory will be workmanlike again with 23-32 265 yds 1 int, 2 td

4) How many yards rushing?
- Mason will show strong again. But, not the numbers he put up last weekend (I hope I'm the most wrong here). 21 carries for 117 yards, 1 td

5) Who wins the war in the trenches?
- The biggest factor in who wins this game is right here. On offense I think this will be a virtual tie until the fourth quarter. I predict that Mason will get a majority of his yards then as PSU's front line begins to wear down (admitedly I don't know how deep they are but their starters are solid) as our elevation begins to take a toll on them. On D, I think we'll see PSU with a slight advantage running up the middle to begin with. But, our ability to utilize our depth pays dividends late in the game as our freshness overcomes their size.
6) Which team shows up?
- No doubt about it. The team that played CU and NAU comes to town to treat their fans.

7) What will the single biggest impact play be?
- We return the opening 2nd half kickoff for a TD to take a two touchdown lead that we never surrender.

8) If the weather's bad, who does it favor?
- Us of course

9) Score?
MSU 27 PSU 17

1. Carp: 23-29, 323 yards, 3 TD. Actually finds someone open other than Jefferson this week.

2. Daly: 12 tackles, 3 for loss. 2 sacks. 1 forced fumble (see below).

3. See #1.

4. 120 team rushing yards. Mason gets 101 of them.

5. MSU wins the trench warfare, but just barely. There will be some bumps and bruises after this one, hopefully nothing serious.

6. I was hoping the '85 Bears would show up, but I'll go with the team that dismantled the Puffaloes.

7. Daly sack, fuuuuuuumble, King recovers and rambles 41 yards for the go-ahead score.

8. Nice weather. The birds are singing, the girls aren't yet bundled up for the winter, and the Cats win 31-17.

1) Who has the big game on offense this week?

- I think Jefferson will have a nice game, but will be doubled a lot I bet. This I think is a good thing though as we could have Lewis back for this game with single coverage on the outside. You have to respect his speed so I say Lewis (if he plays) will have about 8-10 catches for 100+ yards this week. A lot of underneath passes as they give him the cushion as well as maybe 1 deep ball +25 yards taken to the house as the CB's get caught jumping on an underneath ball.

2) Who has the big game on defense this week?
- I am going with a unit here. I say our LB Core (led by Clagget/Daly/Epi) have very solid game for us and stop the PSU running game flat! We need a very very good game from this unit this week as the PSU OL is very big and they will have limited chances behind the line to wrap up and take the RB/QB down. We need to make sure we TACKLE very well this week and get the guy down. Daly 12+ tackles this week.

3) What kind of game will Cory have?

- I think PSU is going to come out to stop our run and make Corey beat us this week. So he should get some play action chances and I agree should be pretty workmanlike this week. I keep saying for our team to win we need to have balance so we need another 220 Yard 2 TD type game from him again this week. I think he will probably get picked once because of they speed/physicalness of the PSU defense, but he needs to try and limit mistakes such as INT's/Fumbles. I hope MSU can roll him out some too so he can see the field and dump the ball out of bounds as well if he gets pressure. I say let the ball fly though as we need balance down the field in order to keep the safeties/LB's away from the line of scrimmage. Let their BIG DL work most of the game by themselves to get pressure and I say we tire them out. Misdirection also works very well on big DL's as well as they have a hard time changing direction once they are in motion etc.

4) How many yards rushing?

Mason won't top what he did last week but hopefully he can average 4+ yards a carry for us. Again ... BALANCE. We need to be balanced and 4+ yards a pop should give us many 3rd and short opportunities that we can either call runs on or passes so this makes us a lot harder to defend.

MASON: 23 Carries 100 yards and a 1 TD
2 Rec 20 yards.

5) Who wins the war in the trenches?

I think both OL's should have the upper hand if the field is wet. It is hard to get a big push when the field is soggy so the DL won't be able to really bull rush. This could be an advantage to us on defense as well as we can put in our quick team and run to the ball before the big guys can get their mits on us. I think if MSU is balanced though and moving the ball the BIG GUYS on the PSU DL are going to tire and like the Griz last year really get annoyed that the back of their jerseys are unreadable.

Since the advantage probably won't show until late, we need to have our team on top by then so it isn't even a factor by then in my opinion. We need to come out and get a lead.

6) Which team shows up?

- No doubt about it. The team that played CU and NAU comes to town to treat their fans (DITTO)

7) What will the single biggest impact play be?

- I see into the future and see Daly hitting their QB to cause a late 2nd half fumble that seals the victory for us.

GO CATS! REMEMBER! BE PHYSICAL! EACH AND EVERY PLAY! WR catches the ball .. NAIL HIM. He doesn't catch the ball ... NAIL HIM. Do not let their WR/RB's feel comfortable out there catching passes and I guarantee you there will be drops by those WR's (hearing steps etc.).

One thing for sure is that there can be no excuses about how starters are out, so we just go through the motions. Pups played well and learned they can win in maybe the second toughest venue in the conference. Therefore, most definitely, the team that played NAU will show up this week.

I have my ideas on how the offensive game plan will shake out, but in the interest of national security, I am unauthorized to share it!

On the defensive side - it's simple: stop the run on the way to the QB. I don't care who the QB is for PSU, Christoff will have a blitz package in place that will be making the QB's head spin. I think we win the TO category and win the game. The 4th quarter will be ours.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

1. I like Cory with the big game. He is going to have to pick up some big throws as well as maybe scramble a little more than he has to and could gain some big first downs on the run.

2. I'm still going to go with Claggett...he is due to have a few picks as we rush the PSU offense.

3. 23-33 246yds 2TD's 1INT

4. Mason with 26 carries for 97yds

5. I wish I could say we will, but their D-line looks big and strong. We will have to break a few runs on them to earn our stripes this week.

6. I think we ar egoing to show up with some spit and vinegar and be ready to play.

7. I like your thoughs Wiers

8. chilly and raining favors us on our natural field...though it does rain a lot in Portland.

9. MSU 21 - PSU 18
