We are terrible
Let's not mince words.
It was a game between two bad teams trying to get better.
Eastern's very young team made some strides today.
Our not so young team took another step back-as the injuries continue to mount.
I don't care what level of football it is-jr. high, high school, NAIA, D-3, etc. I've never seen a football team screw up so much. A fumble on the first play of the game? Who does that? A 3rd and forever on their 1 yard line and they get 30 yards? That never happens. 2 touchdowns called back for penalities, interception in the endzone, it just goes on and on. It's almost like we never practice. Maybe our guys are just spending so much time on academics? Ha Ha.
Why not Mark Desin at quarterback-could he really be worse than Carpenter?
I bet we lead the nation in 2 yard pass plays-what is up with that?
Where's the pass rush?
Our best play was a punt-but lest our new punter get a big head-didn't he have two snaps go between his legs? We can't even get the basics right.
Sorry-I'm venting.

Terrible doesn't begin to describe the way this team played, but for lack of a better word it'll have to do. It seems the defense just gave up after Papich went down....that will be a big loss. The corners that are seemingly capable of playing well didn't make many crucial plays today. However, I will say the tackling looked better......I say better.
The O line hasn't shown up for the 3rd straight week. I usually find it flaky to start singling out individuals because it was a team loss. but one certain tackle has a minimum of 4 holding calls in the last 3 games. He had 2 against Charon and had 2 again today, and fortunately he wasn't called for holding on the play immediately following the second call on him. If they haven't gotten into his helmet yet, I hold little hope for him. Why is he still on the field?
That's my take.
I can't remember when the cats last squandered a 3-game home stand! It hasn't happened for a while anyway.

Abysmal.
That is the word I would use to describe the game yet again. Marcosus had a good game. Mason had 4 good plays that he was in for.
The touchdown to Jefferson was lucky because the defender simply missed the ball when trying for the interception. Carpenter is not the answer at quarterback. To be fair, the offensive line didn't give him much time to throw, however his throwing left much to be desired. Obviously Rolovich has not impressed Kramer, but really, could it be worse to put him in when Carpenter is struggling so mightily? They say the most popular man in town is the back-up quarterback when the starter is failing. It is cliché but true.
Taito gets touched and goes down, he has no speed to speak of, and doesn't like to hold onto the football. Mason shows much more playmaking ability and shiftiness than Taito does, but he is standing on the sidelines for much of the game.
Tyler Lulay made a heck of a grab today, but it got called by for an illegal hands to the face penalty.
The play-calling was awful to put it nicely. Bailey is very frustrating to me. The time management is also quite frustrating. This team is undisciplined on the field (the penalties) and evidently nothing is getting through to them, if they are trying to get through to them.
I am a huge Cats fan and I will always support the Cats. Saying that, I must now say that going to games like this makes me feel like I just threw up in my mouth. I hope that changes are made to the starters, to put in people who can play well and best represent the university that I love. I am so frustrated today.

Hang on a sec, you're saying that all those 2-yard passes when down by 9 with 2 minutes to go weren't the epitome of superb playcalling?profisme wrote:

I'll say this... I'm a Griz fan and I hate seeing the Cats struggle like this. I know there are some Griz fans out there loving it, but I for one am not. Do I want to kick the Cats ass come Griz/Cat... hell yeah!!! But it means a lot less if you guys aren't in the race for the title.
Maybe your players and Coaches can pull their heads out of their asses and get it going next week. You've lost 1 game in the Big Sky. So what. It's really the first game of the season (at least for the Sky).

When down by 9 -- throw to the endzone-- the old hail mary might work --- 2 yards across the middle and we don't even have a prayer.

Catsrback76,
So, do you see this as a OC error or a quarterback error? Me? I see it as a QB issue. I saw others busting their ass down the field on those final plays only to have to job all the way back to the huddle. And we want these guys to bust their ass on every play?

Well, I thought that was the only game left on our schedule that we could compete in.
A 1-10 record is staring us squarely in the face.
I'd give my last dollar bill for a logical explination as to how on god's green earth we won in Colorado. I'm not sure if there is a college team at any level that we could defeat right now. Actually, I might take a few high school teams + the odds right now. Actually, I might take the Bobcat women's volleyball team plus the odds in a football game vs Bobcat football.

Barechest,I see it as a QB issue. I don't have a problem with the play, but the execution of it is in the QB's hands. Cory, as you noted in another post, locks in on one reciever whom I assume to be the primary read and does not see the field. I saw several missed checks that he could have made with other recievers that had huge cushions, and on one play a wide open uncovered Mason who if Carp had only looked would have scored with nobody around. The thing that was so obvious was that Toliver was his first option and he was 15 yards shorter than Mason and on the same line, but Cory did not even see him.barechestcat wrote:catsrback76 wrote:MSU01 wrote:Hang on a sec, you're saying that all those 2-yard passes when down by 9 with 2 minutes to go weren't the epitome of superb playcalling?profisme wrote:

Cory is not an innovator from the QB spot at this stage. Can he be???? I think he "thinks" too slowly. Not a slam on his mental skills for I think he is very bright, but simply a style of play that prefers to run the play as called unless everything breaks down and then, only then, does he look around. I think Rolovich needs to start next week at NAU.

Agreed. They're playing like every play is fourth and 24 with :11 to go and down 6. Settle down and just play your game. Stick to the fundamentals and play to your strengths. There is a lot of footbll to be played and theyplayed a lot better today than the last two weeks. Continue to improve. Have some pride in your game and your teamates games. Do that and good things will come. You just can't snap your fingers and get it together. It takes work and perserverance.alasax wrote:So, why did we win the last 3 $1/2 years?
Someone needs to step up and play like they will not lose.
Others WILL play up to their level.
If you think Lulay ran every play that was called...BS
We need a hero.
Who will it be?
