The QB

Post by crazycat » Mon Sep 18, 2006 3:25 pm

This is a very talented team, but it isn’t playing very well at all. It’s up to the coaches and the players to change that.

Defensively, this team is as talented as any we’ve had. The special teams are very solid, the offensive line is good, and the receivers are also as talented as we’ve ever had. The QB play has been horrible, but it showed in that one game that it could be good.

If our QB plays well, we can be anybody left on our schedule. He’s been the difference in every game. Teams are just going to stack the box against the run and make him beat them.

There’s more pressure on the QB this weekend than any of the previous three games. If someone doesn’t step up in that position, we’re done. The CU game wasn’t a fluke, but maybe our QB play was.

The rest of the team has performed poorly, because the QB has eroded the confidence and will of the rest of players. The one time in the last two games we had good QB play we drove down the field easily against Chadron and scored to make it 14-10.

I don’t care who plays QB, but it’s now or never. Our QB has got to quit bringing the rest of the team down. You’re only as strong as your weakest link.

I agree that QB is a very crucial part of this equation, but it cannot rest soley on his shoulders.

The OL hasn't played great, but they are giving him enough time. The OL can play better, and I hope they will.

As bad as the QB play has been at home, the dropped passes are making the first year of Gatewood/Guinn/Roosevelt look awesome. They got it together eventually, but I don't think they started near this bad. I hate to single anyone out, but Jefferson HAS to catch those wide open balls. I can forgive over the middle drops, but wide open hooks with no defenders near you is inexcusable.

But I definately agree, if the QB situation doesn't improve, this team won't.

It just seems to me that the rest of the team plays well, but eventually cracks in large part due to the QB play and when they do it's magnified because the QB hasn't done a thing.

I mean the QB play hasn't even got us in decent field position, so that the eventual error doesn't kill us.

If the QB plays better the rest of the team will be in a better position to play better.

I was really impressed with Toliver and Lulay's hands too. That one over the middle to Toliver was a great high up grab where he just went up and got it. I think we should see more of those 2 as well these next few games. We have talent at WR, it is just getting them to settle in and start playing the way we know they can.
