pregame music

Post by hokeyfine » Thu Apr 01, 2004 11:07 am

i was driving to the store last night and nazareth's hair of the dog came on the radio. i promptly turned it up to compete with the snoop dog coming from the teen car next to me. as i was listening i thought this would be great as an anthem for football games. can you imagine hearing real loud "now your messing with...a son of a bitch". no cracks about being old either. my teenage kids and i go round and round about music.

After Janet Jacksons/Justin Timberlakes "Nipplegate" you wonder how cautions school administrators are going to be about the content of the music they play.

I would suggest cat scratch fever. Good rock sound and actually says cat in the lyrics. I'm serious...just trying to be helpful.

Maybe it could drown out the mountain lion sound over the PA. You guys need to be more politically correct on your sound effects. bobcats hiss.
There is nothing wrong with a loud hiss. I heard that the G.riz are thinking of playing an eagle screech because it sounds better than a G.rizzly roar.

hokey: Hair of the dog... that takes me back. I discovered that song in high school, except it was the remake by Britney Fox (hair metal band, not a bimbo like it sounds), which in turn led me back to the original. That song does rock [as I play air guitar in my cube to the amusement of all that walk by].

How many years now has bronco been bringing up the Bobcat sound effect? We need an infusion of new material.

That is a good suggestion as I've always wanted then to kick it up a notch, but knowing they probably won't ever take my requests to play things like Filter - Hey Man Nice Shot, after a good hit or something, or several other hard-rocking tunes I can think of during opportune times - too edgy. Nugent isn't that over the top though. See, some of these G.riz fans aren't so bad! :)

Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
How many years have I suggested you get a real message board?
You finally did that.
If you look at my posts they are not all smack there are helpful hints on improving your program and atmosphere at the games. I think it's good if both programs have their act together. If I kept my mouth shut on the lame ESPN board you'd still be using it. I know you won't admit that it finally sunk in because the other day you were saying you had nothing to do with this new message board.
Here is something new... how about some cops not only in the stadium but directing traffic. two hours to get on the road and moving is rediculous.... and the scoreboard sucks....squeek...squeek.
1/2 hour after a G.riz game you can drive right out. Or you can keep thinking everything is fine.

Don't give yourself too much credit for the new board, bronc-man. You weren't exactly springing an original thought on anyone.

As for the scoreboard, have you at least quit claiming that it says "Home" and "Visitors" after you made that claim on the 1-AA board, only to have a nice photo was posted of the scoreboard with the Cat/Griz score showing "Bobcats" with more points than "Visitors?"

Besides, an incredibly expensive scoreboard is far down the list of needs at MSU. Getting rid of those endzone seats and turning it into a nice permanent structure comes first... well, after paying off the existing debt.

As far as the music goes for the game I think "Welcome to the Jungle" is a good one. They used that a couple years ago before kickoffs and when the Cats came running out of the tunnel. This past year they played "Been a Long Time"(not sure if thats the title or not) by Led Zepp, dont get me wrong I love LZ but not that great of a song to get the crowd as well as the players into it. And speaking of pregame music, what was up with the band taking up half the student section at basketball games??

I thought they used Hells Bells by AC-DC just before kickoff...I thought it worked well!

I think it's sad if you need music to get the crowd fired up, screaming and yelling is your job being a fan. Only time music should be blaring over the stadium speakers is during pre-game warm ups, but that is usually per the players request and not for the fans.

This whole topic makes about a much sense as Thunder Sticks do.

IMO.

Keeping with the Bobcat tradition of Blue/Gold I liked it when they opened the game up with the Bobcat highlights from previous years on Big Screen with EXCTASY OF GOLD (METALLICA VERSION - REMAKE OF GOOD/BAD/UGLY MOVIE VERSION). They play this tune before all the Colorado Avalanche games too, slowly builds up momentum and gets you going .. I LOVE IT! Plus it keeps with the theme of "GOLD' for the MSU Bobcats!

i duno, but there is something about a whole crowd jumping and yelling while the speakers play something loud. I remember going to a griz game with my brother on his visit there, and they played "Jump Around" by House of Pain, and the whole student section was jumping. It was awesome, and got me pumped up!

If God made me a griz fan...I'd shoot myself...

How about "We are the Champions"

The sound systems needs a serious upgrade and I think this would be an inexpensive option to do.

Sound System

Post by rtb » Fri Apr 02, 2004 12:19 am

Yes! The sound system is horrible!! Did we go buy some speakers from Wal-Mart and throw them up there or what? We need to find an alum who is in the business of stadium sound systems and get something new!! I think with out the sound system what ever is played won't be effective.

Two side notes, How about the First Down Bobcats, that has really started to catch on well. I like to see something like that to get the whole crowd involved. Second, I know that a ways west on I90 they got a pretty sweet screen, we need one badly. Trying to see a replay on the current screen is impossible!

Yes, would be nice to have a fan donate $1,000,000 to buy a Jumbotron, like the Griz had happen.

We are the Co-Champions would be more correct.
