I know it’s been an open secret for a while, but it was confirmed in an article from last week. Maybe I missed it, but anyways, here it is! He’ll he playing safety.

Bonner, who said he is projected to play safety on an athletic scholarship at MSU, didn’t announce his commitment on social media and explained his verbal commitment when asked what his post high school plans were after Friday’s game.
“It’s home. It’s like close nearby Billings, and the coaches,” said Bonner. “That’s what drew me in was the relationship, having the relationship with the coaches and how they coached. Because after my official visit, I went to their camp just to see how they coach and stuff. And I loved it, so I just committed.”
West coach Rob Stanton said that’s just how Bonner is when asked about him committing to the Cats, but not announcing the news.
“He’s just a quiet, reserved kid,” said Stanton of Bonner. “And he doesn’t self-promote. He doesn’t do all the social media. So, it’s different, you know, kids like that. He’s a good kid.”

Coach Stanton let this slip on my radio show too, but it went sort of unnoticed. Not surprised - the kid is really talented.

Also, side note, Coach Stanton talked about how wild and cool it's been to see the recruiting of Matt Ludwig. He told a story on the show about sitting in the basketball stands with coaches from Michigan and Texas Tech etc. What a thrill for a great Montana high school coach!

It has been amazing to see a Montana kid get so much recruiting attention. Do you think if Troy Andersen attended a Billings high school that his recruitment would have been similar?

Love this kid. Great fit here.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Bonner was AA first team all-state at WR, safety and punt returner last year. He also played basketball and ran track at West. Got in about half the varsity games and averaged 2.3 points.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Wide receiver, safety, and punt returner — that’ll just replace the twins.

Don't forget that he's also good for one basket off the bench!
