Unfortunately this will likely be the trend in non revenue sports. The bulk of money universities supposedly make is tv revenue and donations. Could see swimming, Gymnastics and other individual sports do similar. Hard to do in team sport like softball but cuts will likely come

I've never heard of a school making an announced choice to cut "part" of a sport....no jumpers/sprinters/throwers...only distance going forward.

There are a few benefits:
- As Wazzu tries to find a conference, they can still say they have a full "suite" of mens/womens sports....Cross Country, Indoor T&F, Outdoor T&F.
- Large cost savings....cutting mens/womens T&F rosters from 40-50 to 10....scholarships, travel, coaches, equipment
- No title 9 impact...cutting the same amount of men & women

There are a few drawbacks:
- No chance of winning conference T&F titles
- Home Scheduling...who is going to come to Pullman for an indoor/outdoor "Distance-only Showcase"...maybe it could be attractive, because you only bring partial teams??
- No Indoor/Outdoor T&F dual meets
- Other non-revenue sports at Wazzu have to see the "writing on the wall". Recruits should think long and hard before committing to Wazzu vs. any other school

I guess a similar effort could be made in reverse.....Cut all distance programs & cross country teams, then fill mens/womens T&F teams (sprints/hurdles/throws) only with dual sport athletes......soccer/basketball/football/softball......that's what most high schools do....not many track only athletes out there.....aside from distance runners.
