Re: All Bobcat Tackle Vote
How I ranked them.
OT Ranking - Top 10 (this is an exceptional bunch of football players my goodness)
1.) Jon Borchardt (3rd rd draft pick; 9 year NFL career; 2x 1st Team All-Big Sky; All-America 1978; ask Sonny Holland who he believes is the greatest tackle ever to play at MSU)
2.) Mike Person (7th rd draft pick; 8 year NFL career; 2x 1st Team All-Big Sky; All-America 2010)
3.) Mitch Brott (2019 1st Team All-Big Sky; All-America 2019; Started all four years and holds the iron man record at MSU)
4.) Brent Swaggert (2x 1st Team All-Big Sky; 3x All-America; set the standard for offensive tackle greatness at MSU at the turn of the century)
5.) John Weidenaar (2015 1st Team All-Big Sky; All-American 2015; training camp with Bengals in 2016)
6.) Lewis Kidd (2021 1st Team All-Big Sky; All-America 2021; on Saints roster in 2022)
7.) Jeff Bolton (great tackle but arguably best center in MSU history other than Sonny; 2004 1st Team All-Big Sky at tackle; 2004 All-America at tackle)
8.) Joe Tiller (All-America 1963; Jim Sweeney regarded him as one of the best players he ever coached; had a great coaching career)
9.) Conrad Burbank (2011 1st Team All-Big Sky; All-America 2011; switched to tackle his senior year and was exceptional)
10.) Bill Schmidt (1984 1st Team All-Big Sky; All-America 1984; left tackle of the 1984 Title team)
Honorable Mentions:
Steven Foster - 10s
Dylan Mahoney - 10s
Joe Hirst - 00s
Peder Jensen - 00s
Jason Westbrock - 90s
Allan Young - 70s
Alan Ward - 70s
Tom Marinan - 60s
Clark Smith - 60s
John Winchell - 60s
Curt Farrier - 60s
Ron Warzeka - 50s (could argue he belongs somewhere in that Top 10)
Bob Biastoch - 50s
Ed Ritt - 50s

Thanks for giving Alan Ward some love! Great guy, outgoing personality, humble, good student. We hung out a lot together, playing pickup basketball on Saturday mornings, singing bass next to each other in some church musical productions, etc. At 6’3” or so and just normal human sized he didn’t really stand out like the big guys today — just a good athlete.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 1:08 pmHow I ranked them.

I didn't realize we could pick 2 until after I hit submit. Should be one more for Person.

Man, MSU has churned out some fantastic linemen over the years. Damn.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Bump. I'm totally into these polls for the TEs and OL. Great fun to see how a sample of Bobcat fans vote.

I think these polls are more of an indication of the age of those who post on this site. Stop and think about the Griz game Paul Shafer had. Then, think about how our medical team takes care of the kid's health today. Don Haas had several games he would not have been allowed on the field today.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 7:17 pmBump. I'm totally into these polls for the TEs and OL. Us older fans who are not impressed very much by statistics but loved the toughness and the wins those in prior years displayed are enjoying reading the analytics and getting together for a few brews after we catch the ****** out of fish...

Re: All Bobcat Tackle Vote
Don Hass was ranked as my #1 RB for what it's worth. Paul Schafer was great but its hard to argue that guys like Ifanse, Ryan Johnson, and Cody Kirk weren't better. All three of those guys also played through immense pain to help their team win. You could actually say every player on these lists played through immense pain for their team.Cat Grad wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 7:37 pmI think these polls are more of an indication of the age of those who post on this site. As far as your age question, the top guys for the TE and OT group are from the 70s, 80s, and 00s respectively with guys from every decade listed. I do agree with you that Don Hass got snubbed in the RB ranking.

Nobody in today's game will be allowed to carry the ball 58 times--with his dislocated shoulder stapled to his body, on busted up knees. The blood from the staples coming out was visible in the stands.
Terry Brown from Oklahoma ran Baines down somewhere around the ten yard line with no time left on the clock, without a doubt the greatest play in MSU Bobcat history.

It was a great play and a fitting ending for my first Cat-Griz game. Baines ran about 50 yards back and forth across the football field before being tackled I believe nearer the twenty than the ten but still very exciting.

It's a great play, but the goal line stand in 2018 is my number 1 play.Cat Grad wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 8:21 pmhttps://www.greatfallstribune.com/story ... 080830002/

Yes, that was a great stop. Tadan knocking the ball out and the subsequent recovery was nice. I got more enjoyment out of various egriz posters like everette, cda, Alabama,gar-grizzly, pdx, Jesse, and others whom I suspect is the same individual with multiple names spewing how the timeout was wrong...luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 10:23 amIt's a great play, but the goal line stand in 2018 is my number 1 play.Cat Grad wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 8:21 pmhttps://www.greatfallstribune.com/story ... 080830002/

I'll still forever and always remember that Oklahoma kid stopping the great speedster, Baines. That comeback and final play on the series after Paul scored with 12 seconds, what a game and play!
