Sanctions against Weber...

Post by catsrback76 » Fri Jan 20, 2006 8:49 am

This was just released about violations at Weber for next year. Too bad and very interesting all at the same time.

"Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions announced Thursday that Weber State University has been placed on two years probation due to impermissible extra benefits to student-athletes in 15 varsity sports over a three-year period.

In addition, the Committee restructured the university's self-imposed financial aid reduction and reduced one scholarship in football for the 2006-07 season.

According to the findings, 193 student-athletes used textbook grant-in-aid funds -- given to them in the form of a $200 credit at the university's bookstore -- to make purchases of personal items and books that were not required. Over the three-year period, the improper purchases totaled $8,467.30

Due to the number of student-athletes involved, the Committee considered this a major violation.

The probation will expire on January 18, 2008."
