Cat/Griz or Griz/Cat?

Post by mquast53000 » Wed Nov 09, 2005 12:43 pm

I was slumming it over at egriz earlier this morning and I noticed that they were referring to the Cat/Griz game as the Griz/Cat game. I was wondering what everyone has called the game through out their years. Have you changed what you call it? Do Griz fans or Cat fans ever list the opposing team first when referring to this game? What are you thoughts?

I voted on both just to make sure my point got across.

I sent a small note to the gentleman that sets up the Big Sky Pick'em pool (I think he has something to do with egriz). I noticed that they referred to the game as "Griz/Cat". Here was the jest of my note:

name ommitted,

Thanks for putting together this pool. It is quite fun.
Side note: The entire state of Montana, 1st graders included, knows the biggest football game of the year is called the "Cat-Griz Game", not Griz/Cat or the Brawl of the Wild.

Thanks again for time and effort you put in for the pool,
name ommitted

Cat/Griz is the correct saying. It's like apples and oranges. Although maybe the Griz fans say oranges and apples. :)

I agree, although I have called it Griz-Cat on occasion.

In high school I went to Billings West and our big rival school was Billings Senior. I've always called it the Senior - West game even though I hate Senior with a passion. It flows better than West - Senior I think as well as Cat - Griz flows better.

Always been Cat/Griz, even before I went to MSU and my sister was attending UM (condolences not necessary  )

The DJ here in town is a Griz alum, and he constantly refers to it as Griz/Cat and it just sounds wrong. He does have a Go Cat's button next to his mike I provided him with! If the Cats win he gets to take it down, a Griz win means he will have to look at it every day for another year.

Ditto that. I think it's funny when Griz fans get their panties in a twist when fellow Griz fans call it that....like it's some big deal.

Always has been Cat-Griz. I first heard Griz-Cat in the early '80s from the guy who is now the Griz AD, but always considered it revisionist history.

Cat/Griz. Calling it Griz/Cat is as lame as believing you can take the "Montana" out of our fair alma mater by referring to us as "State".

It's Cat-Griz. No question. The only thing that's bothering me about it is that it's not here yet.

Cat/Griz no doubt...I agree with every post that says it's an oddity to say it the other way...saying it Griz/Cat makes it sound like animal mating gone horribly wrong.

Well, it is just "State". Nothing more.

How about we call it the Montana/State game? I'd be ok with that.
