14 recruiting: Binford getting it done

Post by mslacat » Wed Oct 02, 2013 12:34 pm

I realized I did not posy any thing on this so I need to make up my laps.

So far this season Tricia Binford has at least three commits for the 2014 recruiting season. The Bobcat Women have 4 or 5 scholarships to give out this year. These three commits (and any other she can get) will sign in November with another signing period in April. The three commit we know about are Haley Blodgett from Golden CO, Hannah Caudill from Gonzaga Prep in Spokane WA and Delany Junkermier from Mead HS in Spokane WA.

Haley Blodgett is a 6-3 (I have seen her listed any where from 6-2 to 6-4 so I averaged) center who averaged 14 points 10 rebounds 3 assists and 6 blocks a game for golden Colorado last season who was getting looks from Arizona State before she committed to the Bobcats.

From Bluestar media's Mark Lewis (from summer of 2012)
Another 2014 forward who’s more interior oriented at this point but showing some possibilities for the four spot is 6-2 Haley Blodgett from Golden, Colorado. Out of Golden High School and playing with the Mile Hi Rockies, Blodgett has the size and frame recruiters are looking for as well as the appearance of the potential to grow some more. Her play appears somewhat methodical on occasion but at the same time is effective in getting the job done and providing results. On both ends of the floor she’s willing to work and actually plays a very physical game with more strength than her appearance gives clue to. Offensively she’s active both in posting up and flashing as the ball is reversed or entered into the high post. She needs to step to the ball on post entry passes more efficiently to keep defenders from getting touches as well as to create more room for her offensive attack. On the defensive end there’s plenty of effort and no hesitation about clearing some space when the ball goes to the rim. Blodgett was one of the players on hand who seemed to improve throughout each game as well as from contest to contest.
Delany Junkermeir is a 6-0 guard/wing from 2013 Washington 4A Champions Mead high school who averaged 14 points per game last season. Mead sent 2 senior players off that team to colleges with full scholarships. She was a first team all conference and All -tournament player. Junkermier has a sister who currently plays on Carroll's Women's basketball team.

Hannah Caudill is a 5-6 point guard who played for Gonzaga Prep also in Spokane WA who averaged 12 points a game last season. Caudill played with current Bobcat Lindsey Stockton and is also good close friends with Delany Junkermier. She also currently plays with Lindsey's sister Laura Stockton (currently a junior) who is going to be a real hot prospect next year.

I have been following the Bobcat Women this fall and they are still recruiting some other very exciting players. There efforts right now seem to be heavily into the state of Washington but they also seem to have the bead on a few athletes in the states of Idaho and Utah.

So, are there any in-state girls on MSU's radar? It seems like the last few years Binford has picked up some really good Montana kids, and competed fairly well with UM in terms of in-state recruiting. Has UM landed all the best girls, or are there just not many D-I caliber recruits in Montana this year?

Jill Barta from Fairfield is the creme of the crop. She committed to Gonzaga I've heard.

Yes she did. In addition to Barta, I believe 1 or 2 other girls have committed to out of state D-I programs, and of course UM landed several in-state recruits.

I thought I'd read that they signed several Montana girls, but maybe I'm thinking of the previous year.

She has plenty of MT girls who are talented, but she needs wins now. At this point we should not care what state they are from

Follow up on a few comments:

Only three senior girls seem to be getting D-1 recruiting attention at this time this year.

Jill Barta is consider to be the cream of the crop of the women prospects. Her final list as Gonzaga, Montana State and Oregon State. From what I understand what she really liked about Gonzaga was that they had 6-5 and 6-6 centers in the program that would allow her to play at the forward spot.
Olivia Roberts (Missoula Sentinel) committed with Wyoming after narrowing her list to Montana & Wyoming and from what I have heard it came down to her wanting to go somewhere fresh.
Maddie Keast (Missoula Sentinel) I do not know if anyone else was pursuing Keast but she committed to Montana the minute they offered.

Now I thought 6-2 Cassie Hashley was D-1 material but obviuosly neither um or MSU did. I had heard that she was told some coaches to have a good season and maybe they would take a look in the spring. Instead she committed to Carroll a few weeks ago. To be honest I am not sure if either programs would offer Rachel Semansky if she was a senior this year. The last two years have been a little slim for D-1 prospects with about 2-3 each year. In the past it has not uncommon to have 5 or more.

Hannah Caudill more info: For those who thought she was the weak link of this class she averaged 10.3 points, 5.2 assists and 2.7 steals and was offered Cal Poly, Seattle University, Idaho, Northern Arizona, Idaho State and Portland State. She chose MSU after Binford was the only coach to attend all of her AAU games this summer, plus the connection with Stockton Junkemmieyer

A pair of Mead girls basketball standouts who helped lead the Panthers to the State 4A championship last winter have made oral commitments.

Delany Junkermier, a 6-foot shooting guard, is headed to Montana State, and Ashlyn Lewey, a 6-0 wing/forward, is going to Seattle University.

Junkermier chose MSU over offers from Idaho, Utah State, Seattle University and Portland State.

She will join AAU teammates Hannah Caudill of Gonzaga Prep, who recently gave MSU a commitment, and ex-Bullpups guard Lindsay Stockton at MSU.

“I really liked the familiarity there,” Junkermier said. “I know a lot of people there and I have a lot of family in Montana.”

Junkermier, a first-team all-Greater Spokane League pick last year, averaged 15 points per game.

“Throughout the (recruiting) process I was really hoping Hannah and I would end up together,” Junkermier said. “We went on our visit together. We had a blast. And we’re going to room together.”

Lewey, who averaged 10.8 points and 10 rebounds last year, also had offers from Cornell, Concordia and Azuza Pacific.

“I loved the coaching staff,” Lewey said. “I saw coaches who wanted to succeed and make the team better. And I’m able to stay closer to my family.”

The commitments by Junkermier, Lewey and Caudill brings the number of GSL players who have made college decisions to four. Central Valley post Mariah Cunningham is headed to Eastern Washington.
